Insight Thainess Episode 6 Weaving of Life
TAT Newsroom Short Documentary
Insight Thainess Episode 6: Weaving of Life
Theme: Made to Value
Duration: 3 minutes
Location: Ban Tha Sawang, Surin
EPISODE SYNOPSIS
In the Northeastern part of Thailand or Isan, people in the lowlands sustain their life through farming. After finishing their work, while waiting for the crops to grow, people pass their free time by raising silkworms, growing mulberry trees, and weaving silk threads into beautiful cloth. The simplicity of this way of life has been passed down for many generations. As time passed, this work became the main job that has generated income for many families. Local silk weaving has turned into SMEs that are well-known by the prominent patterns that are carefully designed by the weavers through each thread of silk, showing the delicacy of the Isan textiles.
The local silk industry at Ban Tha Sawang, Surin province, is also one of those Isan textiles in which the villagers have gained world recognition by enhancing their skills and quality of their local arts to the level of a royal gold brocade or Pha Yok Thong. Supported by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in 2003, in collaboration with Achan Weeratham Taragoonngernthai, this high-class silk weaving, which was once widely used in the Thai royal court, has been brought back to life and acknowledged at the global level.
Until the royal cremation for the late King Bhumibol in 2017, Tha Sawang’s gold brocade has brought the highest honour to these people again when their arts was used for the funeral mask dance’s costume or Khon Na Fai. From the local weaving to the royal textiles, this journey of development has generated jobs and revenue for the people of Tha Sawang and also raised the quality of their life.

Most Dangerous Road view | Phu phan Mountain | Thailand
This video is a nice video and hope you enjoy this adventure video.
The silhouette of the Phu Phan Mountains appears in the provincial seal of Kalasin since they form the northern boundary of the province.
The Phu Phan mountains are among the places in Thailand more severely affected by the Illegal logging of Phayung (Siamese Rosewood) trees. Although officially a protected tree, the cutting and trading of the endangered rosewood trees has been going unabated in Thailand's mountainous forested zones, even in the protected areas. In Thailand and in China this wood is highly valued in the furniture industry.
The Phu Phan Mountains rise above the plateau and are not prominent. They straddle most of the provinces of northern and eastern Isan, including Khon Kaen, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Roi Et, Maha Sarakham, and Mukdahan Province.

Chiang Mai Nightlife - A Night out in the Lady Bars
Chiang Mai has a vibrant nightlife scene. With clubs and bars open all over the city, there isn't much that you can't find here.
Tonight I took a trip to an area of town known as Loh Kroi road, also known as the boxing area.
The street is lined with beer bars and towards the end of the street, you'll find another large complex with at least twenty more bars.
The bar complex also hosts live Muay Thai kickboxing fights and although known for its bar girls and massage shops, Loh Kroi is far less intense and full on compared to places like Pattaya or Bangkok.
It's a fun place where tourists, backpackers and locals meet to have a good time.
Usually, the bars close down between 12 and 1am but sometimes they will stay open later.
There are other clubs and late night venues open in Chiang Mai that stay open a lot later but I didn't make it to them in this video.
Please leave a comment below if you'd like to see me make more Chiang Mai nightlife videos.

Insight Thainess Episode 5 Old Man and His Crafts
TAT Newsroom Short Documentary
Insight Thainess Episode 5: Old Man and His Crafts
Theme: Story of the Wooden Waste
Duration 3 minutes
Location: Tham Pha Tong, Chiang Rai, Thailand
EPISODE SYNOPSIS
The folk wisdom of sala, a master Lanna craftsman, is mostly the art of storytelling that portrays the Lanna way of life through delicate arts and crafts. Those salas in a woodcarving group of Tham Pha Tong village, Tha Sut district, Chiang Rai, are still working on their masterpieces and making their hammering resound throughout the world.
Kamchan Yano is a sala who depicts the stories of the local Lanna culture and sustainable way of life from his lifelong experience in the old days, by turning a worthless and lifeless piece of wood into automaton woodcraft. An electrical mechanism is applied to his traditional carving technique to make those little pieces of wood come alive. This style of making has raised the value of wooden arts and become a notable identity of the woodcarving group in Northern Thailand that is well-known among art lovers around the world as the true living spirit of Thai craftsmanship. From the past to the present, these woodcarving arts have been reflecting a determination of Sala Kamchan to preserve the idyllic life in the Lanna culture and pass it onto the young generation by keeping it alive in people’s hearts forever.
