Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino.
00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day.
2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived.
3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular.
5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47).
10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended.
13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35)
14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person.
16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner!
Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food!

The Original Taco Bell Tacos - MEXICAN STREET FOOD Tour in Los Angeles, California!

Thanks to Jeffrey Merrihue ( and Austin Burgess (
Along with Jeffrey and Austin - two food extreme friends, we set off on a day of Mexican food and fun feasting in greater LA.
Gilberto’s Taquiza - For the first stop on this Mexican street food tour, we drove all the way to West Covina, California, about 45 minutes from Central Los Angeles, to a little spot known as Gilberto’s Taquiza. Jeffrey made sure to call Gilberto himself to reserve some of the meat dripping dynamite sticks to make sure we had some. The dynamite sticks are essentially stewed lamb, cooked until fall apart tender and dripping with oil. In order to make them he dunked a tortilla into the hot oil, sizzled it on the hot plate, filled it with the fall apart tender meat, and rolled it up into a taquito. The result was spectacular. Everything else was delicious too, but the dynamite sticks were crazily good.
Total price - $35 for everything
Birrieria Guadalajara - Next we drove a little further towards Riverside, California, to eat birria, a special Mexican goat stew. Again, this is another Mexican food that just melts in your mouth, meat cooked until fall apart tender. It was spectacular and all the staff were very friendly as well.
Total price - $32 for everything
Mitla Cafe - Right across the street from Birrieria Guadalajara you will find Mitla Cafe, home to the original crunchy American taco. An American taco is a crunchy shell, ground beef, iceberg lettuce, yellow cheese, and tame salsa. As the true story goes, Glen Bell was selling food across the street and used to come to Mitla Cafe to eat their amazing crunchy tacos. Eventually he got the owner to show him how to make the crunchy tacos, and he later started the entire taco bell empire. The downside is that he never admitted that he got the idea and recipe from Mitla Cafe. It’s nice to see Mitla Cafe is still doing very well, and their crunchy American tacos are fantastic.
Price - $13.95
Taco Bell - Yes, just for comparison purposes, we had to go to the nearly Taco Bell. It had been years since I had last eaten taco bell. I have to admit the crunchy tacos were decent, but the crunchwrap supreme doritos locos thing we order, nope. That just didn’t do it for me.
Mariscos Jalisco - Finally to end this Mexican street food tour of LA, we headed to Mariscos Jalisco, a legendary seafood truck serving their famous shrimp tostadas and the Poseidon. They were delicious in every dimension, and it was the perfect ending to this full day of amazing Mexican food in LA.
Total price - $13 for everything

Welcome to the best tacos in the world - the ultimate guide to Mexican street food tacos in Mexico City!
I met up with Lalo from La Ruta de la Garnacha ( he’s from Mexico City, he makes videos about street food as well. And he took me to his favorite tacos in all of Mexico City. We each ate the most tacos in one single day that we’d ever eaten in our lives, and it was the greatest taco day of my life!
Here are all the places we ate in this video:
Tacos Joven - They are known for their tacos de canasta, which are basket tacos, famous in Mexico City. They are served from a basket, and they keep hot the entire day as they are served. The highlight here was the chicharrón taco with chicharrón salsa.
Price - 13 MXN ($0.70) per taco
Taqueria El Abanico - This is Lalo’s favorite restaurant in Mexico City for carnitas, the wildly popular braised pork taco. The entire rib in my taco was the highlight, so tender and flavorful.
Price - 20 MXN ($1.08) per taco
El Pescadito de Sonora - Originating from Hermosillo in Sonora, El Pescadito serves Mexican seafood tacos, especially shrimp or marlin tacos. Their tacototo is a taco that will change your life. This was as good as food gets for me.
Price - 35 MXN ($1.89) per taco
Tacos Charly - When it comes to Mexican street food, suadero is one of the greatest, a massive pan of slow braising beef in its juices. When you order your tacos, they slice up the meat, dip your tortilla in the fat, and you eat it with onions, cilantro, and salsa - pure meat heaven.
Price - 13 MXN ($0.70) per taco
Taqueria Los Güeros - Tacos de tripa, intestines, are very popular in Mexico City as well. They may not be the most pretty tacos, but they are immensely flavorful and have all sorts of different textures going on in your mouth.
Price - 13 MXN ($0.70) per taco
Tacos Los Juanes - This is a great Mexican street food restaurant in Mexico City that serves all sorts of different tacos. We came for the tacos de cabeza and tacos de lengua, both of which were fantastic
Price - 10 MXN ($0.54) per taco
El Vilsito - For Mexican street food in Mexico City, the ultimate taco, the most loved by everyone is no doubt, Al Pastor. Cooked in the vertical spit, a technique brought over from Lebanese immigrants, Al Pastor is usually made with marinated pork that’s juicy and flavorful it might make you weep tears of joy. Lalo and I ordered, not just your ordinary tacos de al pastor, but the King of all tacos, the Gringa!
Price - 50 MXN ($2.70) each
Thanks again to Lalo from La Ruta de la Garnacha:
This was the greatest taco day of my life. Thank you for watching!

WHAT TO EAT AFTER A WATER FAST
WHAT TO EAT AFTER A WATER FAST
DISCLAIMER:
We are not doctors, nor experts on fasting. We do not recommend anyone do a medically unsupervised water fast. If we had not been in Northern Spain when Lou got injured, he would have gone to True North Health Center ( in California to do his water fast with the support of their medical team. If you are under 18 years old, on medication, addicted to any substances, have currently or had a history of eating disorders, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have heart problems or any other diseases it is even more important that you seek the advice of a medical professional before attempting a water fast on your own.
There is something called Refeeding Syndrome which happens when someone who is starving or malnourished eats too quickly and their balance of electrolytes is completely out of whack leading to cramping, ravenous hunger, and can go as far as cardiac and neurological symptoms. This is very dangerous and one of the reasons I don't want anyone to do a medically unsupervised water fast because of our content. Again, Lou was very healthy (minus the back injury and rheumatoid arthritis) and not addicted to any substances going into his water fast.
------------
When Lou finally felt the relief of finishing a 7 day water fast, after an entire week of imagining everything from pizza to burritos, then the reality hit that the whole goal of his water fast was to heal his back, heal his rheumatoid arthritis, fix his leaky gut, and give his body a proper reset, so junk food was off the table. After a bunch of research, I started him on the True North Health Center's protocol for What to Eat After a Water Fast. At their center, their patients are given one day of organic cold-pressed juice for every one week of a water-only fast, then one day of raw fruits and vegetables, then one day of raw fruits and vegetables plus steamed vegetables. So if it was a two-week water fast, then it the patient would break the fast with two days of juice, two days of raw food, two days of steamed and then onto the next stage. This slowly allows the stomach to start back up again, continue to get rid of all the toxins that the water fast released in the body and prevent any further lifestyle damage from occurring.
The diet that they recommend to their patients is an SOS vegan diet, which is a completely salt, oil, and sugar-FREE vegan diet, without any meat, dairy, eggs, processed food, alcohol, or other substances that can harm the body. This might sound super intense, but it's also super intense to live your whole life in chronic pain which is the other option for Lou or for him to be medicated forever, which would mean a life with side effects and still managing symptoms because for Lou the meds didn't take away all the joint pain.
For Lou's refeeding process, we decided to blend the Clint Paddison Program (a specific diet/lifestyle plan that heals rheumatoid arthritis without any medication and is also a whole food low-fat oil-free diet) and the True North recommendations. We do include some salt in our diet with foods like miso, sauerkraut, and capers. But we don't include oil or processed sugar, or coffee, or alcohol.
After Lou broke his fast with the juice day, raw food day, and then steamed veggie day, for about two weeks he did a very simple whole foods plant-based diet to completely recover from the calorie restriction from the 7 day water fast. He ate tons of greens, sprouts, boiled potatoes, basmati rice, quinoa, oats, bananas, apple, blueberries, carrots, cucumbers, lemons, and other fruits and veggies (all organic). He also included miso which is a fermented soybean paste after a few days, nutritional yeast, blackstrap molasses, and some spices.
This video walks through exactly what he ate on Day 20 post fast and I have a blog post that goes a little more in-depth on the refeeding process, the benefits of a low-fat oil-free vegan diet, and how Lou's feeling today if you want to read more:

We will be posting a vlog in the next week about our plans for 2018. They have changed very recently from what we have planned all of 2017, but it's going to be a FULL and EXCITING YEAR!

Playlist Description:
In March 2017, we flew to Pisa Italy to pick up a Roller Team T-Line 740 from the Trigano Roller Team Factory in Cusano, Italy.
We had 7 days to drive the motorhome back to Toddington to the Just Go offices. To make things cheaper and as a true test for our future plans, we also decided we should,
A) Avoid Toll Roads and instead, take Tolle Roads and enjoy the Scenery
B) Stay in Aires and Sostas where possible
C) preferably find ones with free electric.
D) Drive a little every day, and
E) Have Duane work every workday week as close to work hours as possible!
Let's just say we needed a holiday from this holiday!
We naturally took our camera's along and attempted to record the events, sites, sights, and routes of the trip.
Hope you enjoy, and please Like, Comment, Share and Subscribe!
