Mana Pools dag 1 Zimbabwe
Mana Pools with Brett Horley Safaris
This is the place of the two-legged elephants, where Africa’s largest land mammals can be seen standing on their two back legs with their trunks reaching up to grasp the luscious fruit from the towering trees. It is an astonishing sight to behold, as the elephants are dwarfed by the monstrous figs, mahoganies, ebonies, and acacias, creating an image of a natural cathedral with light pouring through the canopies.
Mana Pools (mana, meaning ‘four’ in Shona) is named after the four inland lakes, which used to be part of the meandering Zambezi River, and now flood during rainy season, and shrink in the dry months, drastically changing the environment and attracting a diversity of animal and birdlife. Located upstream from Victoria Falls, on a vast area of over 200 000 hectares and sharing river frontage with the Lower Zambezi National Park, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Southern Africa’s most attractive safari destinations.
