Cost Of Living In Medellin, Colombia El Poblado
Cost Of Living In Medellin Colombia still very reasonable. Read more:
The cost of living in Medellin, Colombia is still quite low and many times one can find a very affordable stay. Anything from affordable accommodation, food, and even nightlife. Medellin, Colombia is one of the best places to live in the world.
Take it from me I have been traveling around the world now for roughly 6 years. I have lived in 12 countries across 5 continents as well. Living in Medellin, Colombia is one of the best places to live year round. There are a few places that are better at certain times of the year but you simply cannot find a city like Medellin, Colombia throughout the entire year.
When considering the cost of living in Medellin, Colombia the accommodation will be cheap especially if you are on a backpacker budget: You can also look to rent an entire apt with friends or colleagues. It will be much cheaper than staying at a hotel.
Between $300-$1500 for housing.
Food is also very cheap. You can have a chef come to the house and cook you very good food including Salmon, Shrimp, and Steak and you will spend between $200-$300 per month. This includes fresh veggies from the market as well that she picks up fresh every day. If you are going to eat out then obviously it will cost a bit more
Food: Between $200-$300 With eating out: $400-$600
If you are going to be doing little things like going to the gym, taking Spanish classes, and taking salsa classes then that would cost a bit more as well.
Gym: $30-$100
Spanish Classes: $10-$20 an hour
Salsa Classes: $10-$20 (private sessions)
My cost of living in Medellin, Colombia is very cheap. I purchased a 7 bedroom penthouse and my total expenses for the month are roughly $748. This includes all utilities, internet, and even the chef and maid monthly.
Would definitely recommend coming to Medellin, Colombia and experiencing the city. It is one of the best cities to both live in the world and also to visit.

10. Popayan
Popayan is one of Colombia’s most impressive colonial cities. Located in southwestern Colombia, it is sometimes called the “Ciudad Blanca” (White City) because its buildings are chalk-white. Founded in 1537, its mild climate quickly attracted wealthy Spanish families who built mansions, schools, churches and monasteries.
9. Medellin
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Medellín was considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world, home to Colombia’s infamous cocaine cartel. But when drug lord Pablo Escobar was snuffed out in 1993, Medellín began to bury its troubled past and rebounded tremendously.
8. San Andres y Providencia
San Andrés and Providencia Archipelago are two island groups that are located closer to Nicaragua than Colombia in the Caribbean. San Andres is the largest island, and also the capital.
7. San Agustin
San Agustin is a laidback little town surrounded by awesome landscapes and the remains of a forgotten civilization. One of the most intriguing ancient sites in Colombia, the archeological park of San Agustin is home to more than 500 monoliths, statues, petroglyphs and sarcophagi. Most of the stone carvings at San Agustin were created between 100 A.D. and 1200 A.D.
6. Zona Cafetera
Travelers who love their java will definitely want to visit Zona Cafetera (Eje Cafetero) where almost half of Colombia’s coffee crop is grown on the slopes of the Andes. Visitors can learn more about coffee at El Parque del Café, a park that has a botanical garden with coffee plants and an amusement park.
5. San Gil
San Gil is an old colonial town in northeast Colombia. Founded by the Spanish in 1689, it was named the region’s tourism capital in 2004. The designation honors mainly the main outdoor activities, such as mountain biking, rafting and kayaking.
4. Villa de Leyva
Villa de Leyva may be a small town less than a four-hour drive from Bogota, but its Plaza Mayor is one of the biggest town squares in South America. At one time people were executed on this immense square, which is now used as a gathering place for celebrations and festivals, such as the onion beauty pageant.
3. Bogota
Bogota, sometimes referred to as “the Athens of South America”, was first settled by indigenous peoples, though the founding date is generally set at 1538 by a Spanish explorer. Today, the city is one of the largest cities in South America and Colombia’s capital.
2. Tayrona National Park
Tayrona National Park is a must-see place for travelers who enjoy nature and exploring old ruins. Located on the north Colombia coast, the park offers a variety of ecosystems, from swamps to scrublands to cloud forests.
1. Cartagena
Cartagena is the bustling city where Kathleen Turner’s character Joan Wilder begins her Colombian adventures in Romancing the Stone. Hopefully, travelers will get their visits off to better starts.

Now back to Cartagena, here are some more tips:
1)Walk The Old City
There are three main neighbourhoods in old Cartagena: Centro, San Diego, and Getsemani. Walk every street (and we mean EVERY street) by foot. Morning and evenings are the best time for exploring.
2) Get To Getsemani
Real people live in this old neighbourhood, which is what makes it more alive than Centro or San Diego. Street art = worth an afternoon. Go back to the Plaza de Trinidad at night.
3) Museums
We went to the (free) Museo de Oro and the Palacio de la Inqusicion.
4) Eat
Crazy fruits you should try: lulo, zapote, maracuya, granadilla, caimito, guanabana, and mamoncillo. Don’t want to buy from streetcarts? Try them as juices. Other meals: seafood is king in Cartagena and ceviche some of the best we’ve had. Green plantain chips or fried in a mash are a must try.
5) Beaches
Bocagrande is right in the heart of the city, but the water isn’t great. So we went to Isla del Encanto, which was very expensive, but private and guarded so you don’t have to worry about your belongings. Charter a private boat to the Islas de Rosario if you want a customized trip.
6) Sunset on the Wall
Iconic Cartagena experience? You got it. Cafe del Mar is a good place to sit, or just buy a couple beers from the wall vendors and claim your own piece of wall. Drinking in public is legal in Cartagena.
7) La Popa
There’s a convent on top. Because this is the highest part of the city, you get great views. Do not try to walk up the hill. Take a cab or a Chiva Bus.
8) Castillo de San Felipe
Yup. It’s a real castle and it’s f*cking hot in the day, so go right when it opens in the morning. There’s a giant flag at the very top.
9) Las Palenqueras
The fruit ladies are everywhere! Don’t be a dick: buy something or tip them for a photo.
10) Bocagrande
This was our last stop in the city - it’s like Miami Beach meets Puerto Vallarta.
Thanks for watching!
