On the A1 from the baltic sea to Hamburg - construction side - Autobahn tourists should look this!
Erstmal sorry für meine Abonenten, dies Video ist in englisch. kph = km/h
I am driving a Toyota Corolla Verso R1 2.2 D-CAT Turbodiesel down the A1.
It has 177 hp and 400 Nm torque. It could easy reach 200 kph, max is 220 kph.
I drive it at 120 - 130 kph.
The regular car in germany is a cheap asian car, with a max of 150 hp and regular speed on the Autobahn is 110 - 130 kph. Trucks are just allowed to drive 80 kph.
Not every german drives a 400 hp Audi, BMW, M;ercedes or Porsche.
People who drives that kind of cars are rare and nearly all are stupid idiots.
Here you can see clearly, how bad our Autobahn is. The camera mount is ok, car is fine too.
The shaking comes from the road. Yes you see nothing, but you can feel it in the steering.
Another thing is, how narrow our lanes are. You can see other cars just fit right in them. There is not much safety space on the sides. especially in construction areas.
On a normal Autobahn the lanes have a width of 3,75 meters, but they can build them more narrow to save space and money. If they do so, the lanes have to have a width of 3,5 meters.
A European truck is 2,5 meters without mirrors. So count 20 cm per mirror.
Most have 2 lanes per side. Some main parts have 3, to avoid traffic jams.
Yes the Autobahn has to be repaired. Often they start repairing in spring when the weather becomes nice. In this areas they make the lanes more narrow.
There the right lane is 2,5 - 3 meters and the left lane is a bit more than 2 meters. No emergency lanes are planned there.
So your car has to be narrow, to be allowed to drive on left side in a construction side.
And don't forget your mirrors. They belong to the car and have to be counted to the width.
You can clearly see, that many of the cars are to wide to drive left. But the most owners don't know the width of their cars. My Toyota is nearly 1,90 meters with mirrors, so i can drive on the left lane in the construction side. I do so at the end of the construction side.
This here is reality, not that great, huh? And that is just the A1. You should inspect the other parts of the Autobahn. They have construction sides, too. And often these are in the parts, where the speed limits are gone. So instead of driving 250+ kph on left lane, you have to drive on the right lane between the trucks, cause your rented supercar is to wide to drive left, and you have to drive 60 kph for long distances, cause in construction sides they slow down traffic to avoid problems.
Yes germany is the land where you can drive fast legal in public, if the condition and traffic situation is right. Its dangerous to drive faster than 130 kph. Nobody expects such high speeds. And remember, its not important how good you can drive, its more important how bad the others are. It just needs one idiot next to you....
