Mikulov (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Mikulov in the Czech Republic.
South of Brno, on the Austrian border, the Czech town of Mikulov occupies a strategic location on the former trade route between Vienna and Brno. The ruling Liechtensteiner were conscious of the economic contribution made by the town’s Jewish population and so for three centuries Mikulov became the centre of the Moravian Jews. The synagogue and around ninety buildings have been preserved and have become splendid cultural monuments. An imposing Renaissance castle rises picturesquely above the town and this once royal castle guarded the country's border. In 1249, Přemysl Ottokar The Third assigned both town and castle to the Styrian family, Liechtenstein, in gratitude for their support. In 1560, the Liechtensteiners sold everything to Hungarian aristocrats and in 1575 Emperor Maximilian The Second passed the town as a fiefdom to the Dietrichsteiner. In the eighteenth century, three fires caused extensive damage but, situated between its vineyards, the Late Gothic appearance of this rebuilt town has managed to survive to the present day.

Czech Republic Travel Guide - Mikulov Castle in Southern Moravia
Take a tour of Mikulov Castle in Czech Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Mikulov Castle sits in the lush, exotic region of Southern Moravia in the Czech Republic.
The Baroque architecture and soothing colors of this classic structure entice visitors to enter and explore.
A stone form of this castle existed in the 13th century, but has since been significantly reconstructed.
Extensive rebuilding took place after an occupation by German troops in World War II.
Today, the castle hosts the Mikulov Regional Museum, with a focus on grapes and wine-making.
While Mikulov was once the capital of Moravia, the Mikulov castle is now a hub for viticulture and manicured beauty.

MIKULOV CASTLE |MORAVIA TREASURES
Mikulov castle is a stunning building located in the centre of the town of Mikulov in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic. The castle was built on a place of historic Slavonic settlement in the 13th century and reconstructed in the early 18th century. It has been destroyed in a fire by the end of the Second World War and reconstructed again in the 1950s. We see the giant wine barrel located in the Castle’s underground and then we eat some local food in a traditional wine cellar.

With two weeks traveling around Central Europe, these region of the Czech Republic was my most anticipated and ended up being my favorite adding a pin on a map of one of my favorite places in the world. After leaving Bratislava, i anxiously waiting for a stopover in the small city of Breclav near the Czech and Slovak border for a small regional train to Mikulov. The train was nothing but two old train cars being towed by a small engine train. After about an hour and change I finally arrived in the little town of Mikulov. After a small walk to the market for beer and necesities, I arrived at my hotel, Hotel Templ, which sits at the foot of the castle. The street, is beautifully lined up with pastel colored buildings and a nice view of the Austrian border.
After walking through the casle, I stumbled upon a small market and festival with food, Moravian wine, and other goods on the table for dirt cheap. Once I had a small meal, I set off for the highest point in the town. A short 25 minute hike up to the church up top reveals rewarding panoramic views of Mikulov and beyond, a view you cannot miss when coming here. Next hike was up to another semi high point, an old tower with a nice angle of the town. With much of the town seen, and being that it was low season with not much to do, I had my Czech beers relaxed and hung out with a little dinner at the hotel.
After having breakfast and checking out, I made a stopover at the small town of Valtice, a short 10 minute train ride to see the Valtice castle, an former German/Austrian castle with the beauty of a palace you'd see in Vienna. From there I set off for Brno. When I say off the beaten path, these towns surely were that. I saw no foreigners but Czech natives, exactly the experience I wanted for myself. :)

Bouzov Castle - Czech Republic Travel Attractions
Take a tour of Bouzov Castle in Czech Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Nestled amid the lovely countryside and gorgeous hills of Moravia, Czech Republic is an idyllic medieval castle.
This 14th century stronghold, the statuesque Bouzov Castle, emerged from an austere sentry castle.
A number of aristocratic families have inhabited this castle throughout its history; as a result its architecture was updated more than once to accommodate their then modern trends.
From its early Gothic beginnings, it was transformed to a Renaissance-style fortress and later into a Neo-Gothic castle.
Adorned with gorgeous oriel windows, elegant bastions, tall towers and Gothic vaulting, this castle is simply exquisite.
Today this rustic beauty is immensely popular as one of the Czech Republic's national monuments.
