Saying Good-bye to Los Angeles at The Big W, Palos Verdes Peninsula
The Big W
The fictional Santa Rosita Beach State Park, with its signature crisscrossed palm trees comprising the Big W amidst lush surroundings and featured in the 1963 comedy It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, was a landscaped set built in 1962 in the backyard of the Harden Gatehouse on Palos Verdes Dr. S, in Rancho Palos Verdes. As of 2016, all of the Big W palms were gone.
This was my last good bye to the city of Los Angeles. I had found all the other locations for the film Masterpiece Its A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World, but had never visited this site before. This is my last Los Angeles Film.

RECENTLY OFFERED FOR $2.49 MILLION. NOW SELLING AT OR ABOVE ONLY $1 MILLION! Situated on a lush, wooded lot that borders historic Sope Creek and adjoins the Chattahoochee National Park and Forest, this one-of-a-kind Property is a stately and serene retreat located only 25 minutes from the heart of Atlanta.
Influenced by notable castles and manors across Scotland and England (including the home of Sir Walter Scott, circa 1771), this exceptional estate sits on more than an acre at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in coveted East Cobb – named Georgia’s Best Place to Live by Money Magazine in 2016 – within the affluent Atlanta suburb of Marietta.
The estate is comprised of a main residence and an adjacent carriage house. The main living quarters offer 5 bedrooms, 5 full and 3 half baths throughout three living levels. The two, upper living levels span nearly 5,400 sf, while the finished lower level adds an additional 3,000 sf. The carriage house sits above a three-bay garage (with one extra-deep bay, allowing for more than 5-7 cars when using auto lifts), and adds 1,300 additional sf. It features one bed with one full and one half bath, a large living room, and a laundry area. (A kitchen can easily be added).
Although inspired by the mansions of history, the home is very much outfitted for “today’s king and queen.” There are many modern creature comforts, such as a gourmet kitchen outfitted with professional-grade appliances by Viking and Sub-Zero, a butler’s pantry and wet bar, 1,500-bottle wine cellar, media room, fitness center, and six total fireplaces. Nearly $500,000 of Honduran mahogany can be found within the estate, including fifty-five doors that were hand-carved by English master craftsmen.

Stratford Upon Avon from the River
Short river cruise. The audio is not great as the person driving the boat kept talking on a loud speaker. However, there are a couple of funny bits or you can turn the volume down. The water levels are so high in the river we could only take a 15 minute cruise.
