Monarto is a locality in South Australia 16 km west of the Murray River. It is north of the South Eastern Freeway between the Callington and Murray Bridge exits 63 km from Adelaide. Most of the residents of Monarto run small hobby-like farms, raising cows, sheep and horses. Crops in the area include wheat, oats and barley. In the late 1970s Monarto was proposed to be the site of a new satellite city of Adelaide. By the turn of the century the proposal had been completely abandoned.

Monarto Zoological Park is a 1,500-hectare open range zoo located in South Australia administered by the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia . It is located at Monarto approximately 70 kilometres from Adelaide's centre. The zoo features several unique attractions, including the new, up-close and personal Lions 360 walk-in cage experience, a drive-through cheetah habitat, a southern white rhinoceros habitat, and Australia's largest giraffe herd. It is also home to South Australia's largest revegetation project. As of 2015 Monarto Zoo has achieved one of the most successful giraffe breeding programs in Oceania.
