Hidden Portland Tour with Carye Bye
Follow local artist Carye Bye (aka the Museum Lady) on a tour of SW Portland's best obscure, fun and hidden things to do. Did you know you can go behind a waterfall in Keller Fountain Park, learn 1930's street slang while hearing tales of The Dark Strangler at the Portland Police Museum, and see a scale model of the city carved out of wood at the Portland Building? Carye Bye has a zest for exploration, charm to spare, and an endless supply of undiscovered local finds.

509-La Verkin UT, UN Free Zone and Pah Tempe Hot Springs
La Verkin is a city in Washington County, Utah.
The population of La Verkin is around 5000, and it’s in walking distance of Hurricane, and the two cities have historically had close ties.
Theories about the origin of the city's name suggest that it may be a corruption of the Spanish la virgen, after the nearby Virgin River,] or possibly an error in the transcription of the term beaver skin.
La Verkin contains the southernmost highway junction to Zion National Park, at the intersection of Utah SR-9.
There's also a noted pony-truss style bridge, built in 1908, that rises some 200 feet over the river, spanning over 75 feet in length.
The city made national headlines in 2001 when the City Council passed an ordinance declaring La Verkin a United Nations-free zone.
La Verkin is the 'mouse that roared,' only to be crushed by the [Utah] state attorney general, the threatening communist ACLU group, the world government U.N., and the Utah media.
The night of July 4, 2001 was surreal in the tiny town of La Verkin, Utah.
On that night, specifically chosen for its patriotic symbolism, the Mayor and City Council met in special session to address what it saw as an urgent constitutional and international crisis.
They hoped to save the citizens of their town from a pernicious evil that the Congress, President, and Supreme Court of the United States seemed to ignore: the United Nations' designs to usurp the U.S.'s national sovereignty.
Kind of the opposite, where the state of California declaring itself a sanctuary state and as such proclaiming the state will not follow US Federal immigration laws.
In either case, neither has the best interest of our country
The La Verkin City Council decided to act by passing a U.N.-free zone ordinance.
Not surprisingly, the ordinance sparked sharp criticism.
Almost two weeks later the La Verkin Mayor said, We've been pushed far enough, and long enough. We're tired of marching to [the U.N.] agenda. . . .
Maybe La Verkin is the crucible to get the rest of the cities and the national government to listen.
Newspaper accounts cite a Councilman as saying, after displaying a map of the United States color-coded with areas purportedly under U.N. control, You may only have two years of freedom in this country, and I'm saying we do not want that to happen.'
The debate continued until July 24, 2001, when, by a thin 3-2 margin, the City Council voted in favor of a revised, and significantly watered down, U.N.- free zone ordinance.
At the height of the tempest, La Verkin's reputation actually inspired curious, passing tourists to inquire at City Hall about buying anti-U.N. merchandise.
Six months later, the storm seemed to have passed as quickly as it came.
Although La Verkin was the first local government to adopt a U.N.- free zone ordinance, it has not been the last.
In 2001, the City Council of Bingham, New Mexico adopted an ordinance similar in style and scope to the one in La Verkin.
In 2003, voters in Grant County, Oregon, approved a similar U.N.-free zone ordinance.
In addition, a local citizen's group has unsuccessfully lobbied Lincoln County in Montana to adopt a comparable ordinance.
Thus, although hardly a legislative stampede, the anti-U.N. movement is not isolated to La Verkin.

Top 8 best things about full time rv living! We are sharing out top 8 favorite things about the full time rv living lifestyle with Drivin and VIbin here on YouTube.
1 Is seeing new places at we travel across the US in our RVs. Before rving we maybe went on a vacation once or twice a year to see something new. Now in 2 years of travel we have been to 12 different states and seen so much more/
2 Is community. The Rving community is a tight knit one and when you meet other RVs you become almost instant friends. We are so grateful to have been so welcomed to the Xscapers group and meeting other people who are working age RVers
3 Downsizing your stuff. Having less stuff is a huge perk to the RV lifestyle. With less stuff to manage we are able to do more playing and exploring outside. It is an amazing feeling being about to walk into out tiny home and clean things quickly. We know from personal experience that downsizing isn't easy. We are almost trained to think that we need all the stuff we have accumulated. But once we got past that hurdle it has been a huge relief getting rid of so much stuff.
4 Relationships. Being in a small space can make for great relationship building. In a small space there isn't room for tension or anger. Instead we have found we tackle problems head on and resolve things faster. It is took some getting adjusted too but we feel this has truly made our relationship stronger.
5 Flexibility in travel plans. This is a big one since sometimes we change our plans rapidly. We may decide to go to a different location based on weather or to check out a new national park.
6 Friend and Family. Having quality time with friends and family on the road is important. There are times we may feel distant but the quality time we can spend with them makes up for that.
7 Creativity. We have found that living on the road has allowed us to be more creative with art, our living space and organizing. I enjoy learning the ukelele and and making videos. These are things I wouldn't have had time to do working the 9-5 in a stick and bricks house.
8 Nature. We can all agree on this being out in nature is one of the best perks!

OUR STORY
We are Josh and Kali from Seattle, Washington. In 2015 we decided to change our lives. We sold everything we owned bought a RV and a truck starting living in our RV full time in 30 days! Full time rv living was a major change for us. We hadn't made any plans to change to this rv life until one day it hit us we couldn't have the American Dream and travel to. Choosing to travel meant downsizing our life and becoming minimalists. It was the BEST decision we have ever made. Now we plan to travel non-stop in our 33ft. fifth wheel full time. Join the adventure as we RV across the United States (US)
