Muscle Shoals is the largest city in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of Muscle Shoals was 13,146. The estimated population in 2015 was 13,706.Both the city and the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area are commonly called the Shoals. Northwest Alabama Regional Airport serves the Shoals region, located in the northwest section of the state. Since the 1960s, the city has been known for music – developing the Muscle Shoals Sound, as local recording studios produced hit records that shaped the history of popular music. 1. Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center Corinth
The Second Battle of Corinth was fought October 3–4, 1862, in Corinth, Mississippi. For the second time in the Iuka-Corinth Campaign, Union Maj. Gen. William Rosecrans defeated a Confederate army, this time one under Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn. After the Battle of Iuka, Maj. Gen. Sterling Price marched his army to meet with Van Dorn's. The combined force, known as the Army of West Tennessee, was put under the command of the more senior Van Dorn. The army moved in the direction of Corinth, a critical rail junction in northern Mississippi, hoping to disrupt Union lines of communications and then sweep into Middle Tennessee. The fighting began on October 3 as the Confederates pushed the U.S. Army from the rifle pits originally constructed by the Confederates for the Siege of Corinth. The Confe...

Enticed by the Muscle Shoals documentary, I visit the town even before watching the movie. Being a vintage recording gear junkie, visiting one of the recording studios was a must for me. I also explored this unlikely corner of Alabama, and took a ride on the Natchez Trace Parkway.
