Places to see in ( Dusseldorf - Germany ) Wildpark Dusseldorf
Places to see in ( Dusseldorf - Germany ) Wildpark Dusseldorf
Nestled in the scenic Grafenberg Forest, the Wildpark with its approximately 100 animals, especially for families, is an attractive destination that is open 365 days a year and does not even cost admission.
The enclosure, first constructed in 1927, at that time only covered 10 hectares and housed fallow deer and roe deer. In 1944 the park was closed, in 1952 extended to 30 acres and reopened. Today, the enclosure is 40 acres and anything but a zoo. So the animals are not presented in the game park; Rather, they decide themselves when to approach and show themselves to people.
In extensive, nature-oriented enclosures are red deer, deer, mouflon and the wild boars so popular with the youngest visitors at home. A special feature is the fallow deer enclosure. Here the game, if it wants to, can be experienced up close and fed by the children.
Other park-dwellers are pheasants and partridges, as well as, in particular, predators, foxes, polecats, wild cats and raccoons. Bee house, natural pond and anthill complete the local animal family of the game park.
The visitors are allowed to feed the fallow deer and wild boar in moderation with raw food (carrots, kohlrabi, potatoes, apples, pears, acorns and chestnuts). Pasta contains too many carbohydrates and is therefore not a suitable natural food source for the wild animals.
In the months of October and November is the reproduction time of the fallow deer. During their rutting sound then snoring sounds from the wildlife park. The fallow deer are aggressive in the mating season due to rival fights and also unpredictable to humans. In the past, therefore, the entire outdoor enclosure for visitors had to be closed for a good eight weeks. Through the construction of so-called wedding gates, visitors can now experience the fallow deer close up. A small conversion in the outdoor enclosure makes this possible.
The deer are now housed in a separate enclosure from which they can not switch to the outdoor enclosure. Her antlers stop her. The barrier is designed so that only the female animals can pass it. The female fallow deer can move freely, enter and leave the separate deer enclosure, as they please. The visitors of the game park, on the other hand, can now enter the large outdoor enclosure during the rutting season and also observe the exciting rutting behavior of the animals up close.
