He won this position as an independent candidate, defeating the Indian National Congress candidate. He is the only Chairman who won this seat two times consecutively in 61 years. Tehri now comes under the Tehri assembly seat of Uttrakhand and the Tehri Lok Sabha seat of India, which are represented by Dhan Singh Negi and Raj Laxmi Shah respectively.

1. Tehri Dam New Tehri
The Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India and one of the highest in the world. It is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri in Uttarakhand, India. It is the primary dam of the THDC India Ltd. and the Tehri hydroelectric complex. Phase 1 was completed in 2006. The Tehri Dam withholds a reservoir for irrigation, municipal water supply and the generation of 1,000 megawatts of hydroelectricity. The dam's 1,000 MW variable-speed pumped-storage scheme is currently under construction with expected commissioning in May 2018.

Sivananda Radha Saraswati was a German yogini who emigrated to Canada and founded Yasodhara Ashram in British Columbia. She established a Western-based lineage in the tradition of the Saraswati Order and published books on several branches of Yoga, including Kundalini Yoga for the West and Mantras; Words of Power. She was a member of the California Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and developed transpersonal psychology workshops to help students prepare for intense spiritual practice. 7. Surkhanda Devi Temple Dhanaulti
Surkanda Devi is a Hindu temple situated close to the small resort hamlet of Dhanaulti in the village Uniyal gaon of Tehri District. It is at an altitude of about 3,030 metres, or 9976 ft lies close to nearby hill stations of Dhanaulti and Chamba walking distance of approx 3 km from Kaddukhal, the place where vehicles are parked. It is surrounded by dense forests and affords a scenic view of the surrounding region including the Himalayas to the north, and certain cities to the south The Ganga Dusshera festival is celebrated every year between May and June and attracts a lot of people. This is a temple which is situated among the trees of rounslii. It is covered with fog most of the time of the year.

Kanatal is a small village in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Kanatal is 78 km from Dehradun (capital of the State Uttarakhand), 38 km from Mussoorie and 12 km from Chamba. It is on the Chamba-Mussoorie road and nearly 300 km from Delhi, India.A few decades ago, there used to be a lake by the name of Kanatal; now it dried up and hence the name Kanatal, literally meaning one eyed lake in Hindi. To make it memorable, the place was named Kanatal.
Surkunda Devi is a temple in Kanatal, dedicated to Sati Ji. Kanatal is where Shankar Ji brought her dead body on his trishul from Haridwar. Located at a height of 9995 feet, you get a 360-degree view from the top of the temple. This temple is 8 km on the road to Mussoorie to Kaddukhal. One has to trek 2 km on foot to the little temple. Ponies are available.
The temperature here hovers between 10-20 degrees Celsius in summers. In winters, it presents a mesmerizing sight of snow carpeted grounds and trees presenting a white wonderland& temperature lies in between 5-10 degrees.
The location experience heavy snow fall blocking roads in winters. Due to high altitude the place unpredictably faces high winds
Kanatal has a few hotels with a view of the snow-covered hills. There are also a few camp grounds like Camp Carnival, Little Jaguar, The Kanatal Orchids - Camps, The Terraces, Pahadi House.
Kanatal has an average elevation of about 8500 feet (2590 meters). The highest point is Surkunda Devi Temple, at a height of about 9,995 feet. There is scarcity of water. In winters temperature can be negative hence The roads are blocked with snow ; often crystallized and hard enough to skid vehicles thousands of meters down the valley.
Kanatal is conveniently connected by road to Delhi and major cities. The closest railway station and airport is Dehradun. Taxis are easily available for Kanatal.
• Tehri Dam at New Tehri is quite famous. This dam is built on the confluence of River Bhagirathi and Bhilangna and make for an interesting visit. While at New Tehri, also visit the Pant Research Institute where fruits and plants are grown.
• Kodia Jungle is 1 km away on the road towards Chamba. It is a very nice picnic spot. A level walk of 7 to 8 km will show dense forests opening into a vast expanse of undulating hills and valleys. Tiny, gurgling natural springs are along the way. The track is jeepable. You could spot a few wild animals.
• Mussoorie is 37 km from Kanatal and is a popular tourist destination.
• Chamba is 14 km from Kanatal. Chamba is untouched and untamed by the vices of urbanisation and commercialisation.
• Dhanaulti is 15 km from Kanatal. Dhanaulti is like a cool winter breeze. Unspoilt by commercialisation, one can feel nature here. Treks, pony rides along fruit orchards and water streams appearing from nowhere can keep you busy as there is little commercialisation. Roads to Dhanaulti are not so bad and this can be a place worth visiting.
• Shivpuri is about 75 km from Kanatal and close to Rishikesh is Shivpuri, where you can enjoy rafting. Shivpuri is perhaps the most convenient and popular rafting destination close to Delhi.The best time to go is from September to October and then from March to May. It is closed in the monsoon season.

1. Neer Garh Waterfall
Neer Gaddu Waterfall is a famous waterfall for small trek. The water flowing from natural rocky cliffs tempts the holidaymakers to take a cool dip in the narrow stream. The trekking to the waterfall is an adventurous activity as it involves walking through the jungle on narrow trails. This is a beautiful waterfall and is extremely refreshing to stand near the waterfall.
This is a two tier waterfall with two bathing pools. There is very small waterfall after 200 m trek from the road where visitors can also take bath in a small pool. Further 1.2 km trek will take you to the bigger and main waterfall which has a large pool.
2. Rajaji National Park
Encompassing the Shivalik mountain ranges, Rajaji National Park is abundantly rich in flora and fauna and proves a great holiday destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. Famous for its wildlife, especially for tigers and elephants, Rajaji National Park has recently received the status of a Tiger Reserve by the Government of India.
3. Jumpin Heights
Jumpin Heights is a completly adventure lover place located in Mohan Chatti near Rishikesh. Famous site among fun and adventure enthusiasts, Jumpin Heights has a fixed platform for Bungee of 83 mtrs over the river Hall, a tributary of river Ganga
4. Kaudiyala
At 380 m high, Kaudiyala is a popular rock climbing destination surrounded by dense forests. It also offers white river rafting tracks, and the sports is organized by the camping facilities around the place.
5. Ram Jhula
Ram Jhula is an iron suspension bridge across the river Ganges, located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north-east from the town Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The bridge connects the Sivananda Nagar area of Muni Ki Reti in Tehri Garhwal district to Swargashram in Pauri Garhwal district crossing the river from west to east. Built in the year 1986, the bridge is one of the iconic landmarks of Rishikesh.
6. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple
Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Shiva as Neelkanth is his another name. This temple is located around 7km from Swarg Ashram and the route is a 3 hour long walk along a forest path.
7. Triveni Ghat
Situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges, Triveni Ghat, as per its name, is the spot of the confluence of the three sacred rivers- Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. These rivers are considered extraordinarily pious and pure in the Hindu religion and are celebrated by every follower of this faith.
