Day 1: Eastern Thailand Food and Travel Tour. Watch all 8 videos here:
Welcome to Day 1 of my Eastern Thailand food and travel tour. Eastern Thailand is in my opinion often overlooked or underrepresented when it comes to Thai food. Many people do visit, but they tend to go straight to some of the popular islands like Koh Chang immediately, while passing the rest. Even in Bangkok, just a couple hours drive away, you’ll rarely find any Eastern Thai food. So in this series of videos (), my goal was to learn about Eastern Thai food, culture, and travels, and share it all with you.
Chanthaburi (จันทบุรี) is about a 3 hour drive from Bangkok, and this is where we began. Chanthaburi is a charming little town, next to a river, and plenty of history. One of the icons is the Catholic Church, which is the biggest in Thailand.
Here’s all the Thai food we ate and things we did on this tour of Chanthaburi, Thailand:
Morning Market (ตลาดสวนมะม่วง)
Grilled sticky rice (ข้าวเหนียวปิ้ง) - 10 THB ($0.32)
Grilled chicken (ไก่ย่าง) - 15 THB ($0.48)
Chanthaburi noodles (เส้นจันท์ผัดปู) - 30 THB ($0.96) - These are one of the unique speciality dishes of Chanthaburi, crab noodles that you need to try. They are very sweet, but quite addictive.
Je Eat Reem Nam (เจ๊อี๊ด ริมน้ำ) - Overall, the bowls of noodles here were quite tasty, though portion sizes were quite small. The restaurant is iconic and located in a great location.
Tom yum seafood noodles (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวต้มยำทะเล)
Rice seafood (ข้าวหน้าทะเล)
Total price - 200 THB ($6.39)
Cathedral of Immaculate Conception - This is one of the iconic landmarks and one of the places you must visit in Chanthaburi.
Fish cake (ทอดมันกระวาน) - He watches our videos and saw me walking by. Thanks for the great fishcakes!
Chantorn Pochana (ร้านจันทรโภชนา) - Probably the most well known local food restaurant in Chanthaburi, and for a good reason; their food is outstanding. This is the place to eat local Eastern Thai food in Chanthaburi.
Durian massaman (มัสมั่นทุเรียน)
Gaeng moo chamuang (แกงหมูชมวง)
Pla tom rakam sai krawan (ปลาต้มระกำใส่กระวาน)
Krawan pad cha pla (กระวานผัดฉ่าปลา)

Thai Street Food: Barbecued eggs, one of my favorite street foods in Thailand.
New Thailand videos every Wednesday. Subscribe: Thai Street Food in Thailand. Barbecued eggs, one of my favorite street foods in Thailand. You can find these barbecued eggs, known as kai song kreung or kai ping song kreung (ไข่ปิ้งทรงเครื่อง in Thai), all over Thailand: at parks, festivals, markets and also on the streets. They are authentic Thai cuisine and are very popular with Thai people.
To make them, the raw egg is emptied, and the contents mixed with pepper, a Thai stock powder (ros dee) and Maggi sauce. Once mixed the contents are placed back into the egg shell and barbecued over charcoal. The vendors often can be found walking the streets of Thailand, carrying the barbecue with the eggs as well as other food items, and honking a little horn to let people know that they’re coming. The eggs are delicious, and are definitely worth trying!
Thai Street Food is really delicious, it’s some of my favourite Thai cuisine, and there is so much variety of street food in Thailand. It’s a must to try if you’re on holidays in Thailand. This video was filmed in Krabi in the south of Thailand.
Thailand food markets are one of the best places to buy fresh and authentic Thai food, or to buy groceries and fruit while you travel in Thailand. There are so many Thai dishes on offer and the foods here are cheap, and so tasty! And in case you’re worried, eating street food is perfectly safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it for 3 years in Thailand and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. Thai street food is some of the best Thai food you’ll find in Thailand!
Subscribe to my channel for more videos on what to do and what to eat in Thailand. New Thailand videos posted regularly about Thailand including Ao Nang and Krabi: Places to see, things to do, tours, Thai food, Thailand markets, Thai festivals & culture, Thai street food, hotels, resorts, villas, restaurants, Thailand holidays, tourism, accommodation & Thailand travel.
Krabi is about 2-3 hours from Phuket by land or sea, and has world class accommodation standards comparable to what you find in Phuket hotels and resorts, but in a more relaxed environment.
If you're looking into Thailand Hotels have a look at hotels and resorts in Krabi. The islands and beaches of Krabi are famous for Thailand holidays, the movie The Beach was filmed on Krabi's Koh Phi Phi Island.
Taste of Isan Food Tour - Northeast Thailand (Isan)
Isan food is one of the hot trends in the food world these days. It certainly has some commonalities with Thai food, but overall it's a very different cuisine, making this tour a true culinary adventure. It also offers a fascinating look at Isan culture and local life.
After shopping in the market and making a few quick stops to see how some foods are made, we go out to a rural village where we will eat a huge lunch and an even bigger dinner; all designed for your sampling pleasure. In total there will be 20 mains plus various sides, snacks, and drinks. This is the standard menu for this tour, though some changes may be necessary depending on the season and what's available in the market on the day of your tour. Surely you'll recognize some of these foods, since many of the most popular Thai foods (som tam, laap, gai yang) actually originated here, but on this tour you will get to try the unaltered versions. This is not a cooking class, though you will learn some new skills as you help Mae Teem prepare dinner. And we'll give you a list of the foods you ate and the ingredients used to make them, though we can't give you recipes because she doesn't use them.
The meals are fully authentic. Mae Teem makes no changes to her food for our guests, except that you can control the spiciness of some. A few dishes are vegetarian and some others can be made so without losing much authenticity by leaving the meat out or substituting mushrooms for meat.

Eating Thai Food: Thai Isaan Food Pt 2. Som Tam Yok Krok Restaurant, Phang Nga Thailand
NEW THAILAND FOOD AND TRAVEL VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY. Subscribe: Eating Thai Food: Thai Isaan (North-Eastern) Food (Pt 2). Som Tam Yok Krok Thai Restaurant, Phang Nga Thailand.
Eating Isaan Food in Thailand. Eating Thai Food at a Thai Restaurant in Phang Nga Thailand. This is a Thai restaurant which is very popular with the locals, selling food from the area known as Isaan in the the north-east of Thailand. Isaan food is very popular throughout Thailand. It’s one of my favourite types of authentic Thai foods and I believe you’ll find some of the best Thai dishes at a Thai restaurant like this. My wife and I got a huge spread of food as seen in the video. The restaurant’s name is Som Tum Yok Krok and you can find it on the outskirts of Phang Nga, on the main road between Phuket and Krabi. It’s about 500m north of Daairy Hut Farm. The cost of the meal in this video was about $16.30 US, including drinks. You’ll find Isaan restaurants all over Thailand, even though the food is originally from the north-east. It’s some of the most delicious Thai cuisine you’ll find when you travel in Thailand.

The Making of Thai Noodles in Phakdi Chumphon, Chaiyaphum, Thailand ( 2 )
Phakdi Chumphon Village near to my friends family home, they have a cottage type industry making Thai Noodles in their home.
Phakdi Chumphon is the western most district ( Amphoe ) of Chaiyaphum Province, northeastern Thailand. Tambon Ban Chiang, Wang Thong and Chao Thaong of Nong Bua Daeng district were separated to create the minor district ( King Amphoe ) Phakdi Chumphon on August 1, 1988. It was official upgraded to a full district on September 7, 1995. Neighbouring districts are
( from the north clockwise ) Nong Bua Daeng, Nong Bua Rawe and Thep Sathit of Chaiyaphum Province, and Wichian Buri, Bueng Sam Phan and Nong Phai of Phetchabun Province.
The district is sub divided into four sub districts ( Tambon ), which are further subdivided into 47 villages ( Muban ). There are no municipal
( Thesaban ) areas, and four Tambon administrative organizations ( TAO ).

Delicious Stir Fry Dishes at Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) - Chiang Rai, Thailand
I have a couple favorite restaurants in Chiang Rai, one of them is Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) - a popular place that serves a menu mostly of Thai Chinese stir fry dishes. More details here:
Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) is one of the most busy restaurants in all of Chiang Rai, every night, and especially on the weekends, they absolutely fill up with customers, ready to feast. The restaurant mostly serves a menu of Thai Chinese dishes, many of which are stir fried, but they do also have a selection of prepared dishes stashed in the front cabinet of dishes like boiled chicken, braised duck, and roasted meats. During the time I spent in Chiang Rai, this was a restaurant I kept coming back to, just to enjoy their wonderful home-comforting style food.
For this food video, I started off with a plate of a dishes known in Thai as pad yod on tandawan moo krob (ผัดยอดอ่อนทานตะวันหมูกรอบ), or stir fried sunflower sprouts with crispy pork belly. Sunflower sprouts are not all that common in Thai cuisine, especially at restaurants, though you probably can find them at health food stores - so that’s why I was so happy to see them on the menu. The dish was excellent, stir fried with just the right amount of seasoning, red Thai chilies, and finally a few pieces of crispy pork belly to really enhance the flavor.
Easily the most well known dish at Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) is pad makua sawuy (ผัดมะเขือเสวย), the dish that every table that eats there orders - at least I think so, and they should. The dish was basically a simple plate of eggplant stir fried with minced pork, chillies and basil, and the reason it was so good is that it was fried so fresh, served piping hot, and they really got the balance of seasoning - salty, sweet, spicy - down to perfection. I loved every bite of it, and if you ever go to Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) you should definitely order it too.
Next up on our menu, we ordered gai ban tom sab (ไก่บ้านต้มสับ), Chinese style boiled chicken. The chicken, although it looked a little on the scrawny side (it was a breed of chicken that’s skinnier and more like a free range chicken), it has some incredible flavor - not the type of succulent juicy meat - but more like slightly chewy, full of chicken flavor style of chicken. It was served with a fermented soybean sauce on the side, which was a little on the salty side, but nevertheless tasted wonderful.
Finally, to wrap up our meal this time around at Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) we ordered steamed egg (ไข่ตุ๋น), just a simple bowl of egg beat up with some minced pork and shrimp, and then steamed into a fluffy cake. It was juicy and again, just like everything else, it was seasoned perfectly.
There are a number of wonderful restaurants in Chiang Rai, and I think Ja Jaroenchai (ร้าน จ.เจริญชัย) is one of the best if you’re looking for stir fried foods.
