Honningsvåg (70°59'N, 25°59'E) was declared a town in 1996 by the municipal council of Nordkapp. National legislation was passed in 1997 that states that a Norwegian city must have at least 5,000 inhabitants, but since Honningsvåg was declared a city in 1996, it was exempt from this legislation. This makes it one of the smallest cities in Norway. Population: 2484 (2017)

Preikestolen or Prekestolen is a tourist attraction in the municipality of Forsand in Rogaland county, Norway. Preikestolen is a steep cliff which rises 604 metres above the Lysefjorden. Atop the cliff, there is an almost flat top of approximately 25 by 25 metres.
North Cape is a cape on the northern coast of the island of Magerøya in Northern Norway. The cape is in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway.
Trolltunga is a rock formation situated about 1,100 metres above sea level in the municipality of Odda in Hordaland county, Norway. The special cliff is jutting horizontally out from the mountain, into free air about 700 metres above the north side of the lake Ringedalsvatnet.

Nordkapp, North Cape, is it worth visiting?

Nordkapp is a Norwegianized form of the English name North Cape by which the area was historically known dating back to at least 1553. The Old Norse name of the cape was Knyskanes. The municipality was originally named Kjelvik, after the main fishing village for the parish. But that village was totally destroyed by the Germans in 1944 and it never recovered. As a consequence of this the municipality changed the name to Nordkapp in 1950.

Some 200,000 tourists visit Nordkapp annually during the two to three months of summer. The main tourist attractions are the North Cape and the nearby Knivskjellodden. The North Cape first became famous when the English explorer Richard Chancellor rounded it in 1553 while attempting to find a sea route through the Northeast Passage. Helnes Lighthouse is located at the entrance to the Porsangerfjorden.

Port of Honningsvag, Norway

It is located in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county. Population is 2415 people. Honningsvåg is situated at a bay on the southeastern side of the large island of Magerøya, while the famous North Cape and its visitors center is on the northern side of the island. Honningsvåg is a port of call for cruise ships, especially in the summer months.

A short visit to Haugesund (Norway/Norge)

(EN) Haugesund is a town and municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The town is the main population centre of the Haugaland region in northern Rogaland. The majority of the population of Haugesund lives in the main urban area surrounding the city centre, with the northwestern part of the municipality being fairly rural. Despite being a fairly young town, the areas around Haugesund were lands of power during the Viking Age. Harald Fairhair, the first king of Norway, had his home at Avaldsnes, very close to the present town. Fairhair was buried at Haraldshaugen, a burial mound adjacent to the Karmsundet strait. This site is the namesake of the town and municipality of Haugesund. The national monument at Haraldshaugen was raised in 1872, to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872. The Battle of Hafrsfjord has traditionally been regarded as when western Norway was unified under a single monarch for the first time.
The urban village area of Haugesund (population: 1,066) was declared to be a town and it was separated from the municipality of Torvastad on 1 February 1855 to become a separate municipality of its own. On 1 January 1911, a small urban area of Skåre (population: 3,847) that directly abutted the town of Haugesund was transferred to Haugesund. On 1 January 1958, the remainder of the municipality of Skåre was merged with the town of Haugesund, creating a larger Haugesund municipality. On 1 January 1965, the island of Vibrandsøy (population: 70) was transferred from Torvastad municipality to Haugesund.
Haugesund has a strong historical bond to the sea and especially the herring. In the earlier years, the coastal waters of Haugesund were a huge source for fishing herring, and the town grew accordingly. The protective straits of Smedasund and Karmsund gave the town potential to grow in both fishing and shipping. Even to this day, Karmsund is one of Norway's busiest waterways. The town is still growing geographically even though the population has increased only moderately the last decade. Today the herring is long gone, and the town is turning more and more towards the petroleum industry, like its neighbouring town to the south, Stavanger.

Flam, Norwegian Fjords Cruise

Visit to Flam June 5, 2013 at a Vision of the Seas Cruise from Copenhagen.
Flam is a village at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord.
The village is located in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway.
The village is located along the E16 highway, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) southwest of Aurlandsvangen, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of Undredal, and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) east of Gudvangen (through the Gudvanga Tunnel).
The village of Flåm is a popular tourist destination and has been so since the late 19th century. It currently receives almost 450,000 visitors a year. Most come to enjoy the scenic 20-kilometre (12 mi) Flam railway (Norwegian: Flamsbana) between Flam and Myrdal, one of the steepest railway tracks at 1 in 18 (not counting rack railways) in the world. There are also a few spirals.
A former rail station building in Flam now houses a museum dedicated to the Flam railway.
The harbour of Flam receives some 131 cruise ships per year.

Finnmark - Norway

Finnmark or Finnmárku is a county in the extreme northeast of Norway. By land it borders Troms county to the west, Finland (Lapland) to the south and Russia (Murmansk Oblast) to the east, and by water, the Norwegian Sea (Atlantic Ocean) to the northwest, and the Barents Sea (Arctic Ocean) to the north and northeast.

The county was formerly known as Finmarkens amt or Vardøhus amt, and since 2002, has had two official names: Finnmark (Norwegian) and Finnmárku (Sami language). It is part of the Sápmi region, which spans four countries, as well as the Barents Region, and is the largest and least populated county of Norway.

Situated at the Northernmost part of continental Europe, where Norway swings eastward, Finnmark has always been an area where east meets west, in culture as well as in nature and geography. Vardø, the easternmost municipality in the country, is located farther east than St. Petersburg and Istanbul.
The Norse form of the name was Finnmörk. The first element is finn(ar), the Norse name for the Sámi people. The last element is mörk which means woodland or borderland. In Norse times the name was referring to any places where Sámi people were living (also parts of Southern Norway).

More recently, Finnmark is also the older name for Lapland in Sweden and is used by some inhabitants in this region. The title comes from Linné's expeditions in the northern Nordic regions during the 18th century, and his choice of name was influenced by the history of the region.

Around lake Semsvannet, Norway April 2012

I missed the Norwegian Herpetological Association's field herping excursions in 2010 and 2011, unfortunately, but last year I was back with the gang. :-) In 2012 our destination was lake Semsvannet in Asker municipality in Akershus county west of Oslo. I have a bunch of videos to upload from this event - this first one just shows the nature and scenery around the lake. The weather was lovely so I got some good shots. :-) There will be a number of animal videos coming up over the next few days. :-)

Seems like there was something wrong with my camera when I filmed the very first snippet in this video. Please keep watching though, that flickering is only right at the beginning. :-)
