Best Place to Stay Grand Cayman
Cruise Ship & Island Travel Gear & Advice -
The Cayman Islands are a fantastic place to vacation! I've been to Grand Cayman several times and wanted to share my Cayman travel advice with everyone. There are two excellent places to stay on Grand Cayman. Seven Mile Beach is likely the most well-known and popular area. There are plenty of hotels and vacation rentals on Seven Mile Beach. The Westin and Ritz-Carlton are the two top resorts on Seven Mile Beach. There are plenty of bars and restaurants right on Seven Mile Beach. For a little more privacy and adventure, I recommend staying on the northern side of the island near Rum Point. Rum Point is a fantastic beach and is less touristy than Seven Mile Beach. Rum Point comes with a trade-off though, as the big grocery stores, shopping, etc. are close to Georgetown which is about a 45 minutes drive from Rum Point. The drive is definitely not a problem though. Please share this video with others. Filmed with Canon XA10 camera. Contains royalty-free music from .

Nestled in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, lies the peaceful British Overseas Territory known as the Cayman Islands. Consisting of three islands just 480 miles south of Miami, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman remain our little piece of paradise.
Government
The Cayman Islands highest official is the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, who is the appointed representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He presides over Cabinet, the ruling body of the country. Mr. Taylor succeeded Mr. Stuart Jack, CVO. The Governor's term is four years. The existing constitution of the Cayman Islands, introduced on August 22, 1972, provides for the government of the Cayman Islands as a British Overseas Territory. It established a governing body called the Cabinet, which consists of three officials and five elected members, the latter being selected from the 15 elected representatives of the Legislative Assembly. To see the 15 elected representatives or to get more information visit the Cayman Islands Government website.
Currency
The Cayman Islands has its own currency, first issued in 1972, whose basic unit is the dollar, issued in notes with denominations of CI$100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 and coins valued at 25 cents, 10, 5 and 1 cent. The CI dollar has a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar of CI$1.00 equals US$1.25. Or, the US dollar equals CI $.80. There is no need for visitors to exchange their US dollars into local currency. The US dollar is accepted throughout the islands at a rate of CI 80 cents. However, this can be confusing to visitors: for example, a US$20 note becomes CI$16. Banks do NOT give a better rate of exchange! Major credit cards (with the exception of the Discover Card) and traveller's checks are widely accepted. Canadian dollars, Euro dollars and pounds sterling can be exchanged for CI dollars at local banks. In addition, Automatic Teller Machines accepting VISA and MasterCard with Cirrus affiliation are located at Cayman National Bank and other banks and at Owen Roberts International Airport as well as a few other locations such as the grocery stores.
Geography
The total land mass of the three islands is 100 square miles. Grand Cayman occupies 76 square miles; Cayman Brac, 14 square miles and Little Cayman, 10 square miles. Grand Cayman is approximately 22 miles long and 8 miles at its widest point, reaching a maximum elevation of 79.77 feet in North Side.
Cayman Brac is 14 miles long and 2 miles wide and has the most dramatic topography of the trio. Its majestic Bluff rises west to east along the length of the island to 151.75 above Spot Bay. Many mysterious caves are carved throughout this awe-inspiring natural attraction.
Little Cayman, only 10 miles long and a mile wide, is flat, reaching a maximum elevation of 55.75 ft. Its famous Bloody Bay wall Marine Park has been called one of the world's best dive sites. Inland, the 203 - acre Booby Pond Nature Reserve is a RAMSAR site and nesting ground for the Caribbean's largest population of Red Footed Boobies.

Drone footage captures exotic town in Grand Cayman Island
Kaibo is a gorgeous small town area on the North side of Grand Cayman Island in the Caribbean. Nestled between Rum Point and Starfish point it has much to offer. Restaurants, bars and luxury condos provide everything any tourist could want. If travelling from the West end of Grand Cayman, you can drive or take a small ferry. Driving will take approximately 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic since the roadways are narrow and the island life makes for slower travel. If you either don’t have a vehicle or are short on time, you can hop a ferry that leaves from Camana Bay in the West for a very affordable $25 round trip. It will drop you off at either Kaibo yacht club or Rum Point, both beautiful locations and very close to each other. You could walk from one drop point to the other if feeling ambitious. While enjoying your day in Kaibo or Rum Point, make it the best and enjoy the pristine waters while paddling a kayak. You can bring your own snorkeling gear or rent some as the shallow calm waters of both Kaibo and Rum Point are great for this. Another amazing thing with Rum Point is that Southern Stingray often cruise around the shallows looking for a snack so your chance of seeing these beautiful creatures while snorkeling is very high. Box fish, similar to a Puffer fish are also around, so keep an eye out. Conch shells are plentiful as well, most have been discarded by conch fishermen so you will notice a hole in one end of the shell. Give it a go with your best efforts of blowing the mighty conch! Personal powered watercraft such as Sea doo and Jetski are also rentable from Red Sail sports located right on the beach at Rum Point. Take a tour or play close by with a friend or family member, its a blast. If you love sunsets and bio luminescence, Rum Point is the place to come. Kayak groups head out at sunset to a nearby bay well know for its amazing bio luminescence. Get there early as the beach fill quickly with all the sunset watchers and photographers. It is amazing! Grand Cayman has a lot to offer and is a short plane ride from the East coast of USA.

Grand Cayman: Island Tour (Perfect for the Whole Family!)
Visiting Grand Cayman on a cruise? This video shows some of the highlights from the island tour. Your guide will take you past interesting houses such as the governor's mansion, how the locals live, a stop at the Tortuga Rum Co. where you can sample rum and rum cake, the dolphin discovery (and the turtle farm, right across the street), and ends at 7 mile beach. You can stay here for the rest of your day, or the tour does include a drop off back at the pier.
We booked on the pier (not through the cruise line) and it was affordable and informative! I would recommend it to families, people looking to save money, and those who have nothing planned for this stop.
