The Northern Neck is the northernmost of three peninsulas on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in the Commonwealth of Virginia . This peninsula is bounded by the Potomac River on the north and the Rappahannock River on the south. 4. Belle Isle State Park Virginia
Belle Isle is a small 54-acre island in the city of Richmond, Virginia. Belle Island lies within the James River, and being owned by the city it serves as a city park. It is accessible to pedestrian and bicycle traffic via a suspension footbridge that runs under the Robert E. Lee Bridge from the northern shore or via a wooden bridge from the southern shore. Except when the water level of the James is high, it is also reachable by foot from the southern shore via easy boulder-hopping. From Belle Isle, one can see Hollywood Cemetery, the old Tredegar Iron Works, and Richmond City's skyline. Belle Isle has many bike trails around the island, and has a small cliff used for rock climbing instruction.

Reedville is an unincorporated town in Northumberland County in the Northern Neck region of the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located at the eastern terminus of U.S. Route 360 east of Heathsville, at the head of Cockrell's Creek on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Reedville is home to the fishing industry for Atlantic menhaden, a small oily fish found in great abundance in mid-Atlantic coastal waters. The Omega Protein corporation runs many of its vessels and lands much of its catch in Reedville. The town is also a popular place to begin fishing charters and trips to Tangier Island in the Bay. 7. Menokin Warsaw Virginia
Menokin, also known as Francis Lightfoot Lee House, was the plantation of Francis Lightfoot Lee near Warsaw, Virginia. Lee was a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence. Menokin was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971.Historic American Buildings Survey documentation, including photos from the 1940s, shows the house standing and reported that it was in poor condition, awaiting a restorer. The National Park Service webpage shows the house in ruins, but reports that woodwork had been removed and placed in storage in the 1960s. Although the house has partly collapsed, the Menokin Foundation has developed a plan to restore the house using glass segments to fill missing portions of the building instead of trying to restore the house to its original condition.

Bush Mill Stream Natural Area Preserve in Heathsville, Virginia

This small preserve is a great example of an environment that was once very common all over the Chesapeake Bay region: brackish tidal marshes and mud flats where fresh water streams meet the salt water rivers that flow into the Chesapeake Bay. Bush Mill Stream is one of the major tributaries of Great Wicomico River. During America's Colonial Period, ocean going vessels were able to sail up the Great Wicomico to the mouth of Bush Mill Stream to a point known as Deep Landing. Goods like lumber and agricultural products were often transported through this port. Today, changes in water levels in Great Wicomico have made it so that ships can no longer reach Deep Landing.

The preserve is open during day light hours and can be reached and explored on foot via the Deep Landing Trail and Heron Trail. You can also explore the preserve via kayak or canoe. The preserve is located in Northumberland County, on the Northern Neck peninsula of Virginia's eastern Tidewater Region, near the town of Heathsville.
