Costa Rica: Northwest Beaches (HD Audio)
The beaches in Costa Rica's Guanacaste province are some of the best (and most popular) in the country. These include Tamarindo, Carillo, and Nosara. These beaches are prized for their long, beautiful coastlines and spectacular surfing and swimming conditions. They are good places to kick back and relax along the Pacific coast.
Most of this video was filmed in Tamarindo and Nosara. Far from the all-inclusive, resort-style destinations, these beaches are singular, funky and fun. Surfers paddle into the Pacific, searching for the perfect wave, while beachcombers relax beneath palm trees and sip tropical drinks.
Tamarindo is more developed than other towns along the Nicoya Peninsula, but it still retains a low-key, relaxed vibe. The surfing here is some of the best in the country—international surf competitions are sometimes held along its shoreline. Nosara is a smaller town, but it has equally good surfing.
Costa Rica's beaches are scattered with locals and foreigners. Costa Rican locals, known as ticos, are friendly and helpful. As you can see in this video, Costa Ricans engage easily with travelers. Laughter and smiling is common.
