The Dandenong Ranges are a set of low mountain ranges, rising to 633 metres at Mount Dandenong, approximately 35 km east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The ranges consist mostly of rolling hills, steeply weathered valleys and gullies covered in thick temperate rainforest, predominantly of tall Mountain Ash trees and dense ferny undergrowth. After European settlement in the region, the range was used as a major source of timber for Melbourne. The ranges were popular with day-trippers from the 1870s onwards. Winter in Melbourne is quite cold so not much to see in the gardens. Luckily animals are still quite active so zoo is always a good option!

Drive in Mount Waverley to Malvern East (suburbs of Melbourne)

Melbourne AU, Springvale Rd to the Top of Yarra Blvd.

Springvale Road to Yarra Boulevard is about 20 k, through the parks and forests on the east side of Melbourne. The trail ends at the beginning of the famous Yarra Boulevard. The Yarra Boulevard (known as the Boulie), is one of the best rides in Melbourne. The Boulie is an undulating sealed road following the Yarra River between Chandler Highway and Walmer Street in Kew. The beauty of the Boulie for the time-poor cyclist is the flexibility afforded by doing laps. A harder session might encompass four laps, while a two-lap burst is still an efficient way to turn the legs over. (Any more than four laps may be a tad repetitive.) There is little traffic, you're surrounded by bushland, there are city views and overall the Boulie presents a challenging hill ride, which will soon turn a beginner into a formidable cycling machine. I'm sure if Lance lived in Melbourne he'd ride the Boulie!

The first part of the ride through the forests and parks along the Eastern Fwy has a number of short hills with grades up to 14%, tough but not too long. The Boulie has a series of 500m to 800m hills at 4% to 7% grades with a great view of the Melbourne Skyline.

This is a relatively quick overview of a great adventure.
