Odense is the third-largest city in Denmark. It has a population of 178,210 as of January 2016, and is the main city of the island of Funen. By road, Odense is located 45 kilometres north of Svendborg, 144 kilometres to the south of Aarhus and 167 kilometres to the southwest of Copenhagen. The city is the seat of Odense Municipality and was the seat of Odense County until 1970, and Funen County from 1970 until 1 January 2007, when Funen County became part of the Region of Southern Denmark. Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales. Andersen's popularity is not limited to children: his stories express themes that transcend age and nationality. Andersen's fairy tales, of which no fewer than 3381 works have been translated into more than 125 languages, have become culturally embedded in the West's collective consciousness, readily accessible to children, but presenting lessons of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity for mature readers as well. 2. The Funen Village Odense
The Funen Village is a Danish open-air museum located in the Fruens Bøge district of Odense. It features 25 buildings from Funish villages, most of which date to the 18th and 19th century. The Funen Village was founded as a public works project in 1942, during the German occupation of Denmark, and opened to the public on 1 April 1946. Among the guests attending the opening were King Christian X. The museum's open-air scene opened to the public already in 1944, and was used for patriotic song festivals during the Occupation.

Møntergården is the cultural history museum in Odense, Denmark. It is located at Overgade 48 in a courtyard of half-timbered houses in the Renaissance style. The museum has exhibits on Funen's ancient history, as well as Odense in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Dating to 1646, the two storey building's exterior features carved rosettes. From 2010 to 2013, a major expansion occurred. Among the displays is the Koelbjerg Man , who lived around 8000 BC and are the oldest human remains known from Denmark.

The Danish Museum of Photographic Art is in Odense, Denmark. It is the only national Danish art museum dedicated specifically to photographic art. It was founded in 1987 as part of the Brandts International Center for Art and Culture. The museum is an independent institution but as a state-approved art museum it receives partial funding from the Danish Heritage Agency under the Danish Ministry of Culture. It has a special obligation to Danish and international photography from World War II until today.

She was married to the Danish composer Carl Nielsen.

The museum, one of Denmark's oldest art museums, is located in a Classical, stately building on Jernbanegade. The building has a characteristic temple gable and a decorated frieze with scenes from Denmark's history and Norse mythology. The museum was founded as a mini version of Nationalgalleriets and holds a wide range of works by important Danish artists. The older section contains amongst other things principal works by Jens Juel, Dankvart Dreyer, P.S. Krøyer and H. A. Brendekilde.
