Hiking @ Riding Mountain National Park + Wasagaming // Road Trip 2019
We saw 2 moose and a baby bear!! First time seeing both, really exciting and memorable. We also saw countless deer, and had our eyes peeled for an elk but didn't catch any. Riding Mountain National Park is really a great place to see wildlife, right from the road as you pull over and sit in your car. Really great!
The next morning, we took a short 9.2km hike, and then checked out Wasagaming. The hike was fairly uneventful but it only took 3 hours. Afterwards, Wasagaming was a real surprise. We've never seen a small town with restaurants and attractions for kids in a National Park before. The beach was full of families and people of all ages enjoying the sun on the Canada Day long weekend.
All in all, Riding Mountain was a great stop on our road trip! Now on to Saskatchewan!

This Riding Mountain National Park of Canada introduction video is: Timeless, captivating, and inspiring.
This rich wilderness in the midst of Manitoba's prairie landscape covers 3,000 km2 (1158 sq. miles) of rolling hills and valleys. Bold boreal forest, expanses of meadows and lakes, lofty heights and deep gorges of the Manitoba Escarpment is home to wolves, moose, elk, black bears, hundreds of bird species and even a captive bison herd.
Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of memorable and engaging activities throughout the park and surrounding communities. On the south shore of Clear Lake, lies the townsite of Wasagaming that provides visitors a full range of services including accommodations, restaurants, shopping, activities and cultural attractions.

GARGANTUAN AND RIDICULOUSLY OVERSIZED ROAD SIDE STATUES
Across Canada many towns have erected over sized statues depicting what they believe to be an identifying mark of their town. Some of them are quite obvious, perhaps a statue symbolizing a local product or historical event. Some are down right bizarre. Here are some of the places I have visited and video taped or took photos of large statues by the road side.
