Örnsköldsvik [œɳɧœldsˈviːk] is a locality and the seat of Örnsköldsvik Municipality in Västernorrland County, Sweden, with 32,953 inhabitants in 2017.Its natural harbour and archipelago is in the Gulf of Bothnia and the northern boundaries of the High Coast area. It is well known as an exporter of pulp and paper products and heavy machinery goods. It has a strong environmental record and is the testbed for ethanol-powered cars.

The High Coast Bridge is a suspension bridge crossing the mouth of the river Ångermanälven near Veda, on the border between the Härnösand and Kramfors municipalities in the province of Ångermanland in northern Sweden. The area is often referred to as The High Coast, hence its name. The bridge replaces Sandöbron, the old bridge across the river, in a new extension of the European route E4. It is the third longest suspension bridge in Scandinavia , the fourth longest in Europe, and the 16th longest of the world. It covers 30.62 kilometres , constituting the eastern part of the Forest of Skule. The park is characterized by a very rough topology with many rocky peaks, of which the highest is Slåttdalsberget, 280 metres in altitude, rising directly from the sea. The topography is also marked by the presence of deep crevasses and caves. This particular topology can be found throughout the entire High Coast , a region of Sweden so named because it constitutes the highest section of the coast of the Baltic Sea. Without transfer - there have been direct flights from Hanover, Hahn, Munich and Stuttgart to destinations in Northern Sweden for 15 years now.

In the summer months the sun never seems to set. In winter it only shows 3-5 hours before darkness returns.
During these months it doesn’t stay light for long in Lapland but you’ll be sure to see the Northern Lights.

Day 34 - From Umeå to a village south of Sundsvall

Hitchhiking Around the World in 80 Days: My last car of the day was my luckiest car of this trip. I was picked up by Jonas, who invited me to his summer home where I met his entire family: wife, 3 daughters, 3 dogs and 1 cat. :)
