[Luxury Travel] Luang Nam Tha - Laos
Visit Us:
If you are looking for a new experience in remote and exotic places in Laos, Luang nam tha is a good choice. the area boasts beautiful landscapes, wonderful people, biodiversity, and delightful cuisine. tucked in the northwestern corner of Laos, and near
thailand and china, Luang namtha has the greatest variety of hill tribes in Laos and has trekking tours with home stays available in various villages. Luang namtha has a remote, off the beaten track feel to it, but makes an excellent base for exploring the province. Life in the town revolves around its two markets and there are a small
selection of places to buy handicrafts, though you will also find unique items in the surrounding villages. You can also can explore the nam ha nBcA, a vast area of triple-
canopied virgin forest. From here you can take a luxury river cruise to Luang prabang.
Video Postcard: Oudomxay, Laos ແຂວງອຸດົມໄຊ
A view of Oudomxay, Laos, from Puhipii Mountain. Oudomxay (pronounced OO-dom-SIGH) thrives as a tourist destination, though not for Occidental tourists. Located a couple hours drive south of the Chinese border, it tends to draw visitors from the North rather than from the West. While neighboring districts like Luang Nam Tha and Luang Prabang draw large numbers of Western tourists with the allure of trekking, hill-tribe culture, ancient Buddhist splendor, and forested tropical mountains, Oudomxay caters almost exclusively to Chinese on short vacations. The two largest buildings in the town are both combination casino/restaurant/brothels. There are a few other examples of each type of establishment scattered around town, and its clear that that is where the money is flowing in. The signs are in Chinese and the locals all know a few words of Mandarin or the Yunnan dialect.
Chinas proximity to Oudomxay province is also evident in the wide-scale pillaging of natural resources. Lumber-hungry companies strip the hillsides of old-growth tropical hardwoods, leaving them vulnerable to erosion and mudslides. Much of the old forest is replaced with rubber plantations, under the aegis of a Chinese program designed to benefit former opium growers by giving them another, less detrimental cash-crop. Vast acreages of young rubber trees carpet the once-lush hills. Gem and mineral mines are common near rivers, and there is little oversight as to what chemicals are used in the various extraction processes.

1 USD = 8500 LAK (Laos Kip)
1 USD = 3.5 RM (Ringgit Malaysia)
1 USD = 6.5 MMK (Myanmar Kyat)
1 USD = 4250 KHR (Cambodia Riel)
Bus trip will take about 5 hours, distance about 100 km. Costs 50,000 kip/lak, is done by public minibus only. Big backpacks are carried on the roof (as normal). Take care to go early in order to secure a good seat :). 3 bus trip a day, 8.00am, 11.30am and 3.00pm.
Luang Phrabang is a city in Laos; it was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name and is also the name of a province of which it is the capital. The city of Luang Phrabang is in north central Laos, on the Mekong River about 425 km north of Vientiane. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital, the seat of the king of Laos. Today it is a UNESCO World heritage site. NEW YORK TIMES number one destination in the world for 2008. Laos most famous tourist attraction city, Luang Prabang only have about 25000 people living in it and their life is so relax. I consider their life style here is a healthy one. We can see a lot of monks here and you will be able to see them everywhere in the morning when they come out to collect food for their only meal in a day. We call this 'tatt bat'. I can see all locals and even tourists buy foods offering to the monks. This is one beautifull scenery showing we are still living today with many good people around us. Laos and other Indo-China countries are beautiful country to visit! Stop listening to the propaganda craps from some party and most of the outdated news. There are good and bad people in this world.
Night market — The night market features vendors selling all the typical Lao arts and crafts, some more touristy than others, and is set up every day along the main street parallel to the river. Be warned that it closes down around 9pm or 11pm depending on the number of tourist at the time, unlike the similar markets in Thailand that go on well into the early hours. Please note that there may be some souvenirs available made from endangered animals. Avoid buying rare pets, leather, ivory, talons, dried sea creatures (starfish, etc.), fur, feathers, teeth, wool, and other products. This is the best place to buy lower end souvenirs and hone your bargaining skills :)
