Outokumpu is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 6,825 and covers an area of 584.05 square kilometres of which 138.22 km2 is water. The population density is 15.31 inhabitants per square kilometre . Neighbouring municipalities are Heinävesi, Kaavi, Liperi, Polvijärvi and Tuusniemi. The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Linnansaari National Park is a national park in the Southern Savonia and Northern Savonia regions of Finland. It lies in the middle of the lake Haukivesi, a part of greater Saimaa. The National Park was established to conserve the valuable natural features of the Finnish lakeland. On the main island there's an old croft. Slash-and-burn agriculture is still practised on its fields to conserve the old cultural landscape and the associated plant and animal species. A large part of the island is natural-state coniferous forest, with some herb-rich parts. The critically endangered Saimaa Ringed Seal inhabits the park.

New Valamo or New Valaam is an Orthodox monastery in Heinävesi, Finland. The monastery was established in its present location in 1940. However, the tradition of the Valamo monastery dates back to 1717. The monastery was then originally established on Valaam which is an archipelago in the northern portion of Lake Ladoga, lying within the Republic of Karelia in the Russian Federation. The New Valamo Monastery is nowadays an active centre of the Orthodox religious life and culture in Finland. The monastery welcomes visitors throughout the year. The peaceful atmosphere of the monastery and close proximity to nature offer the hurried people in the busy world of today a rare opportunity to relax − far from the bustle and noise of everyday life.
