We had a 9 hours layover in London while traveling to South Africa, so we decided to make a quick 4 hours trip to the town of Windsor, home to Windsor Castle, a residence of the British Royal Family. Although it was short, we had a great time. Enjoy :)

The City Chambers or Municipal Buildings in Glasgow, Scotland, has functioned as the headquarters of Glasgow City Council since 1996, and of preceding forms of municipal government in the city since 1889, located on the eastern side of the city's George Square. An eminent example of Victorian civic architecture, the building of Glasgow City Chambers was constructed between 1882 and 1888 to a competition winning design by Scottish architect William Young a native of Paisley.

Inaugurated in August 1888 by Queen Victoria, the first council meeting was held within the chambers in October 1889. The building originally had an area of 5,016 square metres. In 1923, an extension to the east side of the building in John Street was opened and in 1984 Exchange House in George Street was completed, increasing the size of the Glasgow City Chambers complex to some 14,000 square metres.

The new City Chambers initially housed Glasgow Town Council from 1888 to 1895, when it was replaced by Glasgow Corporation. It remained the Corporation's headquarters until it was replaced by Glasgow District Council under the wider Strathclyde Regional Council in May 1975. The City Chambers has been the headquarters of Glasgow City Council since April 1996, when it replaced the District Council with the abolition of the Strathclyde Region.

Shibden Hall is a Grade II* listed historic house located in a public park at Shibden, West Yorkshire, England. The building has been extensively modified from its original design by generations of residents, although its Tudor half-timbered frontage remains its most recognisable feature.

The hall dates back to around 1420, when it was recorded as being inhabited by one William Otes. Prior to 1619, the estate was owned by the Savile and Waterhouse families. The three families' armorial symbols are recorded in a stone-mullioned 20-light window at the hall.

For three hundred years (c. 1615-1926) the Shibden estate was in the hands of the Lister family, wealthy mill-owners and cloth merchants, the most famous resident being Anne Lister (1791–1840), who became sole owner of the hall after the death of her aunt. She commissioned York architect John Harper and landscape gardener Samuel Gray in 1830 to make extensive improvements to the house and grounds. A gothic tower was added to the building for use as a library and the major features of the park created, including terraced gardens, rock gardens, cascades and a boating lake. A Paisley shawl garden designed for the terrace by Joshua Major was added in the 1850s. On Anne Lister's death in the Caucasus the estate passed to her lesbian lover, Ann Walker, who died after being forced into an asylum. Possession then returned to the Lister family, who donated it to Halifax Corporation.

The estate became a public park in 1926 and the hall a museum in 1934. The park and gardens were restored between 2007 and 2008 with almost £3.9 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £1.2 million from Calderdale Council. The Shibden Hall is currently open to the public, the 'West Yorkshire Folk Museum' being housed in an adjoining barn and farm buildings. The hall has a variety of restored workshops, including a brewery, a basket-weaving shop, a tannery, a stable and an extensive collection of horse-drawn carriages. The park also contains a dry stone walling exhibition, children's play area and miniature steam railway.

Derry-Londonderry is known as the second largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth largest in the Island of Ireland. The official name for this city is Londonderry but the one that is mostly used there is Derry. There are different things to be seen in this beautiful old city that would come as the different attractions found there and for those who will be in the city during Halloween, they will experience something totally different that would be kept in their minds for the end of time (

It is not just a day that is celebrated but it is a festival or carnival that is held in the city and the shows that are done during this day have made it one of the best Halloween festivals that are held in all of Northern Ireland and even the UK and one of the most popular. It is not just one thing to be seen or one show to enjoy, but there are lots of things which usually make this festival a different one and it has been going for a couple of years now.

There are several reasons that would help us to explain why Halloween festival in Derry-Londonderry is considered the best in all of Northern Ireland; it might be for the costumes which are worn by people, not just those who are part of the festival shows, but even those who are coming to celebrate the event and which are usually about the classic costumes as well as those which are more creative and different.

Since the first thing that define Halloween is wearing scary costumes, there are different things that would scare you during this festival, whether the costumes, the people, or the general scenes, so always get ready. Music and singing is also part of this festival with the different shows that will be done in the street for all the walkers to see and witness them while they are celebrating that festival in Londonderry.

According to history, Halloween is actually an old Irish festival that was originally celebrated as Samhain which means the end of summer and which the ancestors used to consider 31 of October the last day of the year and the night on which the dead would mingle with the living and return to their old homes - and that was one of the main reasons why Halloween festival has always been considered one scary event or festival that people tend to wear scary costumes in.

Referring to the Halloween in Derry as the best in UK and sometimes even Europe was not something that the Irish people are assuming but it has been even voted for in USA Today in 2015 when they named it the best Halloween destination in the world. This old festival has been there since even our grandparents who know some of the ghosts' stories which are being told during this festival and celebration.

Back in time, the people of Londonderry used to celebrate this event on their own by coming out in the streets wearing costume clothes and then attending the fireworks which were held in the streets but once in 1986, the city council decided to make Halloween more of an organized festival and started with a small carnival that was held on a stage placed in Guildhall Square ( and from that point it kept growing to include shows and music to reach the point we see during these days.

There are now people coming from different countries around the world just to celebrate Halloween in Derry after what they have heard about it and after being voted as the best Halloween in the world.

This festival or carnival celebrating Halloween has now been held for a long period of time and this year in 2016 it is celebrating its 30th anniversary and that is why it might have even been much different with all the shows that we have seen which added to the uniqueness of this celebration and making it different than the rest of the cities in Northern Ireland and even in Europe.

Halloween in Derry-Londonderry is not just aimed for those who love horror scenes and wear scary costumes and it is not just for kids to have some fun either, but it is made for all the different ages to give them the chance to celebrate this festival with the music, the fireworks and even the harvest market for all the foodies out there.
