Koh Kret - Amazing Island in Bangkok
Would you believe that this oasis is located in the middle of Bangkok?
Koh Kret is an amazing island located in the Chao Phraya River and completely remote from the hectic city life of Bangkok.
Ride a bicycle, enjoy Thai food or a iced-coffee or simply relax in one of the beautiful temple gardens.
On the ring road, which is only about 6 kilometers long, you can go along footpaths and bridges around the entire island.
What a wonderful daytrip in Bangkok - one of the most exciting cities in South East Asia...

Exploring Nonthaburi Market | You must visit this local market
Nonthaburi Market, Nonthaburi Thailand
Exotic fruits, towers of dried chillies, smoky grills and the city’s few remaining rickshaws form a very un-Bangkok backdrop at this, one of the most expansive and atmospheric produce markets in the area. Come early though, as most vendors are gone by 9 am.
To get to the market, take the Chao Phraya Express Boat to Nonthaburi Pier, the northernmost stop for most lines. The market is a two-minute walk east along the main road from the pier.

Walking Street Market в Thong Sala, Koh Phangan

Koh Kret – Day Trip to Bangkok’s River Island
Did you know there’s an island in the Chao Phraya River near Bangkok? Koh Kret (เกาะเกร็ด also sometimes spelt Ko Kret)is an island in the Chao Phraya River, 20 km north of Bangkok, Thailand.
If you’re in Bangkok and looking for a great experience and a day trip out of the city, Koh Kret (เกาะเกร็ด) is a fun place to visit.
a laid-back atmosphere once you’re on the island.
This is a 2 part video of our trip to Koh Kret
New Meaws Girlfriend takes us around the island for a tour
and we also cruising the river this time right around the
take nice shots of the golden Buddha
and a walk through the market which was basically closed but a few interesting things open
look at some great handcrafted wooden items at a bargain price
Today we visit Mews girlfriends house on Koh Kret an island in Bangkok nobody knows its there.
She is preparing to have it renovated as a homestay and will spend 10 Million on renovations
We have some lunch on one of the many barges along the river then off to the market for some shopping
All in all a great day out
The island dates only to 1722, when a canal was constructed as a shortcut to bypass a bend in the Chao Phraya river. As the canal was widened several times, the section cut off eventually became a separate island.
The Chao Phraya green flag express boat offers a direct service from BTS Saphan Taksin to Pak Kret (pier N33) during peak hours only. Boats operate every 15-20 min from 06:15 to 08:00 in the morning from Ko Kret south to Bangkok, and again from 15:30 to 18:00 in the evening from Bangkok northwards to Ko Kret, with no service on Sundays. The trip costs 20 baht and takes just over an hour. As the service from Pak Kret operates INTO town in the morning and OUT of town in the evening this service is not particularly helpful for day trippers from Bangkok.
Sightseeing boats that do a circuit of the island (see itinerary below) leave the pier every single hour from 09:00 to 17:00, costing 50 baht/person. There is also the possibility of renting a boat at the price of 500-4,000 Baht depending on the distance and the size of the boat. It will take around 1 hour and a half for the whole trip. For more information, contact Wat Poramaiyikawat Pier at +66 25 845 012.
While the locals speak little English, there are useful multilingual maps of the island near the ferry pier and at a couple other points around the island. There are occasional distance signposts along the footpath, and most sights around the island have been labelled in English.

From the Kuraburi pier it takes about 30 minutes to fantastic snorkeling on the island of Khai. A stop on the island Ra for relaxation and more snorkeling makes this day a really good day. Only we were, 8 tourists on the island Ra. Great if you want to avoid the tourist spots in Thailand.

00:39 Doy Kuay Teow Reua (ร้านต้อยก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ) - To begin the day in Bangkok we started off by going to one of my favorite boat noodles restaurants in Bangkok called, Doy Kuay Teow Reua (ร้านต้อยก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือ), which is located just a 10 minute walk from Victory Monument and boat noodle alley. I usually eat a few bowl of kuay teow reua sen lek nam tok (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือเส้นเล็กหมูน้ำตก), Thai boat noodles with the medium sized rice noodles - that’s my favorite boat noodle noodle. Another thing they serve at the restaurant is khanom thuay (ขนมถ้วย), which is a bowl snack dessert made with coconut. It’s quite good if you enjoy Thai desserts and sweets.
7:33 Koh Kret (เกาะเกร็ด) - Open and busiest on the weekends, Koh Kret (เกาะเกร็ด) is an island in the middle of the Chao Phraya River just on the outside of Bangkok located in Nonthaburi at Pak Kret. From Bangkok’s Victory Monument, we jumped onto a bus and we rode all the way to Pak Kret, and then from there we jumped on the back of a motorbike to save time, and then onwards to a quick ferry ride across the river and to Koh Kret (เกาะเกร็ด). Koh Kret (เกาะเกร็ด) is a little bit on the Thai touristy side, it’s kind of like a floating market, but instead of boats and floatings, it’s an island market. It’s a good place to just walk around and explore especially on the weekends when you’re in Bangkok. Again, just like Bang Krachao, even though you’re so close to Bangkok, you feel far removed.
13:18 Soei (ร้านเส่ย) Restaurant - One of my favorite restaurants in all of Bangkok and one of the best restaurants in Bangkok is Soei (ร้านเส่ย), located along the railroad track at Samsen station. I’ve been eating at Soei (ร้านเส่ย) and every time I go, I just can’t get over how delicious the Thai food is. If you love spicy and flavorful Thai food, this is a must eat at restaurant. One of the dishes that very famous at Soei is kaem pla too tod (แก้มปลาทูทอด), which are mackerel cheeks that are deep fried with garlic and served like crispy fish head chips. Another dish I ordered this meal at Soei was gaeng ba pla (แกงป่าปลา), Thai jungle curry with fish. He makes one of the best versions in Bangkok - it’s spicy, pungently flavorful, and packed with herbs and spices. But the ultimate dish to eat at Soei is boo neem pad pongari (ปูนิ่มผัดผงกะหรี่), soft shell crab in a Thai yellow egg curry, it’s EPIC, there’s no other way to put it. The soft shell crab was tender and the curry was outrageously delicious, with a great flavor of yellow curry powder, and the egg making things ever richer and more flavorful. Finally another dish that I have to order every-time I eat at Soei is yam kai dao (ยำไข่ดาว), Thai fried egg salad, and it’s made perfectly here. The egg is crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. It’s just insanely delicious. Soei (ร้านเส่ย) is easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of Bangkok.

23:05 Ratchadamnoen Stadium (สนามมวยราชดำเนิน) - Even though I’ve been based in Bangkok since 2009, one thing I had never done is go to a Muay Thai match, and so after the best meal ever, Ying and I went to Ratchadamnoen Stadium (สนามมวยราชดำเนิน) for an evening of Muay Thai. It was pretty interesting, and along with the fights, the dancing rituals that go along with Muay Thai are also very interesting to see.
