Parkstein is a district in the municipality of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria in Germany. In 2006, it counted approximately 2500 citizens within its district. The origins of its castle, built atop a conical shaped mountain, also called the Parkstein, date back to around the year 1000. A first written account of its existence can be traced back to the year 1053 in the documentations of the monks of Niederalteich of the Reichstag in Merseburg. Weiden in der Oberpfalz

Weiden i.d.OPf. (in forma estesa Weiden in der Oberpfalz) è una città extracircondariale bavarese 100 km ad est di Norimberga e a soli 35 km dal confine con la Repubblica Ceca.
La città venne fondata nel 1241, anche se cera un insediamento stabile già intorno al 1000. Weiden fu un importante snodo commerciale, trovandosi allincrocio fra la cd Goldene Straße, o via delloro, e la Magdeburger Straße, o via di Magdeburgo, che si sviluppava da Sud a Nord. Nel 1531 Weiden contava 2.200 abitanti. Due incendi, la peste, la guerra dei 30 anni devastarono la città, che si riprese solo alla fine del XVIII secolo.

La vera ripresa risale però al 1863, quando Weiden fu collegata alla ferrovia reale bavarese. La città si industrializzò rapidamente, divenendo un centro della produzione del vetro e della porcellana. Anche la popolazione crebbe significativamente, fino a 10.000 abitanti. Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, con larrivo di numerosi tedeschi etnici scacciati dallEuropa orientale, il numero dei residenti passò a 40.000.
