SW Dominican Republic Road Trip - Barahona to Bahoruco - Part 2 of 10

Come along on our 5 day road trip to the southwest corner of the Dominican Republic. The team heads out of Barahona into the more mountainous area of Sierra de Bahoruco then back to the coast to continue south toward the most southwestern corner of the Dominican Republic. While there are plenty of rock roads suitable only for a 4WD vehicle,especially heading out through the National Park in Bahoruco, I think you will also agree that contrary to popular belief, most of the roads in the Dominican Republic are in terrific condition, rivaling those in America and Canada.

The Dominican Republic is a tropical paradise that offers all the adventure and exploration opportunities you could ever hope for. This is a few highlights from the first day of our 5 day adventure in the southwestern Dominican Republic. Barahona is the city where larimar is mined. Chance to buy good larimar for low price. Mine is 10 km from Barahona. I did not have time to visit the mine, but I heard lots of tourists go there.

Polo Magnetico. Place where magnetic field pushes objects uphill. Best amusement is to put car to neutral gear and watch how it goes uphill. It is an illusion. Spots like these are all over the world. Canada for example has more then ten.

Esta fue la aventura de ALEjate con ALE el fin de semana pasado por La Reserva Científica de Ebano Verde. Recorrimos el Sendero Baño de Nubes desde la Loma Casabito hasta El Arroyazo. Las vistas son espectaculares!!

Esta reserva científica está ubicada en la zona oriental de la Loma Casabito, en la provincia Monseñor Noel (Bonao).

Hay cinco razones por las cuales te invito a visitar este lugar:
1)Es una de las zonas con mayor cantidad de plantas endémicas.
2) En la reserva se encuentra protegido el ébano verde, un árbol de madera preciosa, casi en extinción.
3) En esta reserva también se encuentran protegidos los nacimientos de los ríos Camú, Jimenoa y Jatubey.
4) En la reserva se encuentra la planta carnívora Pinguicola casabitoana, que por años se creía extinta.
5) El arroyazo, un balneario espectacular.
