Planète Sauvage is a zoological park situated in the French Atlantic coast, in Port-Saint-Père near Nantes, in the Loire-Atlantique departement. Founded in 1992 by Monique and Dany Laurent and known as the Safari Africain until 1998, it was then operated by the Compagnie des Alpes between 2005 and 2015. Since that date the park has been the property of the multinational company Looping Group, whose main shareholder is a Belgian private equity fund of the Groupe Bruxelles Lambert. Its director is Philippe Vignaud. The park covers about 80 hectares of land, where almost 1,000 animals of about 150 species live, and is a blend of a safari portion visible by car and a pedestrian part which includes one of the three dolphinariums of metropolitan France, where bottlenose dolphins are presented....

Rochefort-en-Terre is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France. Rochefort-en-Terre is a designated “Petite Cité de Caractére”. The medieval chateau located in the town was the home of American painter Alfred Klots. He purchased the chateau in the early 1900s and oversaw its restoration. His son Trafford Klots inherited the chateau and continued to paint there and entertain other visiting artists. After his death his wife donated the building to the French government. In the grounds of the building is the NAIA museum, named after an early twentieth century witch who lived in the town. It houses a small collection of fantasy and kinetic art and sculpture.

If those French literary giants, Flaubert and Proust, approved, Trouville must have style. As to Monet and his Norman master, Boudin, they painted memorable scenes of 19th century bourgeois in their finery promenading along the broad beachfront here. In fact, Trouville was one of the first-ever coastal resorts to be developed in France. Artists may have started the trend for coming here, but by the time of Emperor Napoleon III, from the mid 19th century on, the rich and fashionable flocked to Trouville too. They ordered grand villas and palaces of entertainment, like the glitzy casino.

Trouville casino was built surprisingly close to the lively fishing port, backed by a classic covered fish market, with lively seafood restaurants all around. Scallops, sole, prawns and mackerel are traditional specialities. The lively port area draws the crowds, particularly for the Wednesday and Sunday markets. You’ll also find typical seaside shops.

Wander up the slope into the winding lanes to enjoy the calmer side of Trouville, as well as characterful 19th century architecture. Culture vultures can find their fill in the galleries around town. Back beside the sea, Trouville’s strand was declared ‘Queen of Beaches’ in the past and is still greatly appreciated by bathers and walkers today. Elating trips out to sea or relaxing thalassotherapy sea-water treatements are also on the cards here.

Marguerite Duras, perhaps France’s most famous female writer of the 20th century, was a great cultural figure who became a devotee of Trouville, spending her summers here. She said that everyone she had ever met who had come to the resort for a first time said they dreamt of returning.

Subscibe to our Channel - The Gulf of Morbihan is a natural harbour on the coast of the Département of Morbihan in the south of Brittany, France.The area around the gulf features an extraordinary range of megalithic monuments. There are passage dolmens, stepped pyramids with underground dolmen chambers, stone circles, and giant menhirs, among others. The site best known to outsiders is Carnac, where remains of a dozen rows of huge standing stones run for over ten kilometers. The passage grave of Gavrinis, on a small island in the Gulf, is one of the most important such sites in Europe. Some of the ruins have been dated to at least 3300 BC — 200 years older than England's Stonehenge.

While the main attraction of St-Malo firmly remains its grandiose walled citadel, visitors are also drawn by what lies on the other side of the ramparts. The falling tide reveals several sandy beaches of fine white sand and a cluster of rocky islands that may be reached on foot. The latter are home to a variety of fortifications, as well as the tomb of Chateaubriand, and provide great views back to the walled city.

The exposed sands make it possible to walk a half circuit of the Old Town on the western and northern sides between the Mole des Noires jetty and the Chateau de St-Malo. East of the chateau, the long sandy Grande Plage stretches towards the district of Parame. For those visiting the islands, timetables are available at the Porte St-Pierre gate to provide guidance on beating the rising tide.

Plage du Mole The most southerly of the city's beaches, the Plage du Mole, nestles in between the Mole des Noires jetty and the Bastion de la Hollande. The relatively small size and sheltered nature of this beach means that space can be at a premium in peak season.

Plage de Bon Secours The larger Plage de Bon Secours can be accessed from the northern side of the Bastion de la Hollande via the Porte St-Pierre gate. A sailing club is situated on the ramp down from the gate. A seawater pool, Piscine de Bon, provides bathing for those who don't wish to walk to the waters edge at low tide.

Grand Be The main reason tourists make the walk to Grand Be is to see the resting place of St-Malo's famous son, the French politician and romantic writer, Chateaubriand. On his own instructions, Chateaubriand was buried here in 1848 under a simple cross facing out to sea.

Petit Be Beyond Grand Be is the smaller island of Petit Be which is still accessible by foot at low tide. The well-preserved Fort du Petit Be, dating back to the reign of Louis XIV, was recently opened to visitors and contains cannons and an exhibition on tides. Grande Plage To the north east of the castle, the main sandy beach of St-Malo stretches some two miles towards the seaside suburb of Parame. This is a popular place for those staying outside the city walls and has a large number of hotels.

Fort National Dating back to 1689, Fort National was designed by Vauban along with the other defences surrounding St-Malo to protect the French corsairs from English incursions. It never fell to enemy action. A 35 minute tour of the fort takes in the various subterranean chambers deep under the battlements. Plage de l'Eventail Outside the northern walls of St-Malo is the Plage de l'Eventail which is the rockiest of the Old Town's three beaches. It links up with the Grande Plage at Fort National. As a child, Chateaubriand described how this was one of his favourite places to play.
