    The Gateway Clipper Fleet, founded by John E. Connelly, is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based fleet of riverboats. The fleet cruises the three rivers of Pittsburgh - the Monongahela, Allegheny, and Ohio. The fleet is named after the city of Pittsburgh, which in earlier times was known as the Gateway to the West. The original riverboat was Gateway Clipper, which set sail in 1958. By the mid-1960s, the fleet was composed of three craft, Gateway Clipper, Party Liner, and Good Ship Lollipop. In 1999 it added its fifth ship. In 2008 the Gateway Clipper Fleet celebrated its 50th year of sailing on the Three Rivers.     The Great Lakes Patrol was carried out by American naval forces, beginning in 1844, mainly to suppress criminal activity and to protect the maritime border with Canada. A small force of United States Navy, Coast Guard, and Revenue Service ships served in the Great Lakes throughout these operations. Through the decades, they were involved in several incidents with pirates and rebels. The patrol was ended in 1920 when the US Coast Guard assumed full command of the operations as part of the Rum Patrol. This was initiated during the Prohibition era to try to reduce or end liquor smuggling from Canada across the rivers and lakes, a difficult task.

    The Philadelphia Spirit was a United States Basketball League team that played from 1991 to 1992 at Holy Family University in Northeast Philadelphia. In 1991, they finished first in the league, with a 15–5 record. They beat the Miami Tropics in the league's finals, winning the championship. The team was coached by Bill Lange, a New Jersey high school coach, who was named USBL Coach of the Year. In 1992, they again finished first in the league, with a 21–5 record. They played in that year's league finals as well. However, they lost by two points to archrival, the Miami Tropics. They disbanded following that season.Notable players are Michael Anderson and Marques Bragg.
