Morjim is a small town in Pernem, Goa, situated on the northern bank of Chapora River. Morjim beach is next to Ashwem Beach and Chapora River. It is a soft white sand beach and sea is shallow and flat in some parts. These features make this an ideal place for swimming even for non professional swimmers. This northern Goa Beach is close to Baga Beach of Goa, but is not a busy one like Baga Beach. If you like peace and serenity then this is an ideal beach for you in Goa.
The beach is a famous nesting site for Olive ridley sea turtles. These sea turtles are an endangered species now and they are given highest degree of protection by Indian law. Egg poaching and disturbing them in any manner is a punishable offence according to Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Due to protect the turtles, there are smaller numbers of beach shacks and nightclubs in this beach compared to the other beaches of Goa. The little beach shacks are also available in the northern end away from the protected southern end which is close to Chapora confluence.
