Nicholas II or Nikolai II , known as Saint Nicholas the Passion-Bearer in the Russian Orthodox Church, was the last Emperor of Russia, ruling from 1 November 1894 until his forced abdication on 2 March 1917. His reign saw the fall of the Russian Empire from one of the foremost great powers of the world to economic and military collapse. Marius Ivanovich Petipa , born Victor Marius Alphonse Petipa was a French and Russian ballet dancer, pedagogue and choreographer. Petipa is considered to be one of the most influential ballet masters and choreographers in ballet history. Marius Petipa is noted for his long career as Premier maître de ballet of the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres, making him Ballet Master and principal choreographer of the Imperial Ballet , a position he held from 1871 until 1903. Leon Benois was a Russian architect from the Benois family. He was the son of architect Nicholas Benois, the brother of artists Alexandre Benois and Albert Benois. He built the Roman Catholic cathedral of Notre-Dame in St Petersburg, the mausoleum of the Grand Dukes of Russia in the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Russian Chapel in Darmstadt, and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Warsaw, among many other works. Benois served as Dean of the Imperial Academy of Arts and edited the architecture magazine Zodchiy. He gave his name to Leonardo da Vinci's painting Madonna Benois which he inherited from his father-in-law and presented to the Hermitage Museum. Painter Nadia Benois was his daughter, and Sir Peter Ustinov was his grandson.

12. The Imperial Yachts Museum Peterhof
The flag of Russia is a tricolor flag consisting of three equal horizontal fields: white on the top, blue in the middle, and red on the bottom. The flag was first used as an ensign for Russian merchant ships and became official as the flag of the Tsardom of Russia in 1696. It remained in use until the establishment of the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic in 1917. During the Soviet Union's existence, it used a flag with a red field with a golden hammer and sickle and a golden bordered red star on top. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the pre-revolutionary tricolor was re-introduced as the flag of the Russian Federation in 1991 in the 1:2 ratio. The Tsarist tricolor was fully restored in 1993 after the constitutional crisis as the current flag.

The Peterhof Palace

The Peterhof Palace is a series of palaces and gardens located in Saint Petersburg (Russia), laid out on the orders of Peter the Great.

These palaces and gardens are sometimes referred as the Russian Versailles.

The palace-ensemble along with the city center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The dominant natural feature of Peterhof is a sixteen-metre-high bluff lying less than a hundred metres from the shore.

Atop the bluff, stands the Grand Palace (Bolshoi Dvorets).
