10. Vieng Xai
Vieng Xai is a district and town in Hua Phan Province. The biggest attraction of the town is the caves. The former Pathet Lao Revolutionary headquarters of Vieng Xai sit in a striking valley of fertile hills and limestone cliffs riddled with caves, several of which were used to shelter PL officers during the second Indochina War.
9. Nam Ou
The Nam Ou is one of the most important rivers of Laos. It runs 448 km from Phongsaly Province to Luang Prabang Province. Along with the Mekong, the Nam Ou is the only natural channel suitable for large-draft boat transportation. Near its confluence with the Mekong are the Pak Ou Caves, famous for their Buddha statues.
8. Trekking
Rugged mountain forests set the scene for hikers seeking to explore the remote hill villages of the north.
7. Vang Vieng
Once little more than a bus stop on the long haul between Vientiane at the Thai border and the World Heritage Site of Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng has managed to become a destination in its own right and a popular stop on the unofficial Banana Pancake Trail. Still not much more than three streets and a bus station, the main attractions are the river, laid back countryside, and cave-filled rock formations.
6. Lao food
Lao cuisine is the cuisine of Laos, which is distinct from other Southeast Asian cuisines. The staple food of the Lao is steamed sticky rice, which is eaten by hand. In fact, the Lao eat more sticky rice than any other people in the world. Galangal, lemongrass and padaek (Lao fish sauce) are important ingredients.
5. Luang Prabang
Set at the confluence of two rivers that almost surround the town, and beneath a temple-topped hill, Luang Prabang is a wonderful patchwork of traditional Lao wooden houses and hints of European architecture, reminders of when Laos was part of the French colony of Indochine.
4. Waterfalls of the Bolaven Plateau
The Bolaven Plateau is an elevated region in southern Laos. The plateau is crossed by several rivers and has many scenic waterfalls. The name Bolaven makes reference to the Laven ethnic group which has historically dominated the region. The most popular places visited by tourists are the waterfalls in the region, the villages of the ethnic minorities, and other geopolitical areas of interest.
3. Plain of Jars
The Plain of Jars is a megalithic archaeological landscape in Laos. These stone jars appear in clusters, ranging from a single or a few to several hundred jars at lower foothills surrounding the central plain and upland valleys. The Plain of Jars is dated to the Iron Age (500 BC to AD 500) and is one of the most important sites for studying Southeast Asian prehistory.
2. Phongsali
It is the northernmost among provincial capitals in Laos opposite Attapeu in the south. In the centre of the town are houses built in Yunnanese style with ornate wooden fronts. A 400-year-old tea plantation is located about 18 kilometers away in the village of Ban Koma, which according to some tea experts has some of the oldest tea trees in the world.
1. A slow boat down the Mekong
The lifeline of this landlocked nation, the Mekong figures in every visit to Laos, supplying the fish for dinner, a stunning array of sunsets and a route to travel along.

Transportation
Attapeu International Airport is located about 28 kilometres (17 mi) from Attapeu.[1] The airport opened in May 2015 but did not receive flights until April 2016, when Lao Airlines introduced flights from Vientiane via Pakse.[2] However, the airline withdrew from the market in October 2016 because of low passenger demand.[3] TTR Weekly attributed the airport's condition to the lack of nearby tourist attractions, even though commercial activity has risen due to Attapeu Province's proximity to Vietnam.[4]

Hill-tribe trek, Phongsali, Laos, Part 1
2 day trek to see and stay with some hill-tribes. Michael from Bavaria and myself met our guide Mr Khampheng on the road halfway between Phongsali and Boun Neua where he lives. We set off up a dirt track off the main road. Khampheng is a good guide and has a lot of knowledge of the forest and the hill-tribes, he taught me and Michael many things. The 3 of us became good friends on our trek. Khampheng lives in Boun Neua and its a good place to stay if you want to do a trek. Khampheng phone number is 020-55787399 if you would like to go with him, I highly recomend him for any hill-tribe treks around Phongsali and Boun Neu.a
