Thai Street Food in Bangkok - MOST POPULAR LUNCH Noodles in Downtown Silom, Thailand!
Thai street food lunch tour in Silom, Bangkok!
I met up with my friend Drew Binsky (check out his YouTube channel: and Facebook: to go on a lunch-rush street food tour of Silom.
Silom is one of the main financial business districts of Bangkok, it’s a downtown of Bangkok. Everyday at lunch floods of people from their offices come down for lunch and enjoy delicious street food. What I love so much about Silom is because it has such a vibrant and busy lunchtime rush, and that’s part of the fun.
We arrived a little early, to get a couple lunches in before the main lunch. The highlight of this Thai street food tour for me was Kuay Teow Khae (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวแคะ (โคตร โคตร) คอนแวนต์), one of the most popular lunch noodles shops in Bangkok!
Ok, here’s all the food we ate in this tour:
Khao Man Gai Ban Deed Kim (ข้าวมันไก่บัญฑิตคิม) - If you’ve ever gotten off the BTS at Sala Daeng station and walked down Soi Convent, you’ve probably walked right by this stall. And I’ve walked past it hundreds of times, but this was actually my first time to stop and eat there. They are well known in Bangkok for their khao man gai (ข้าวมันไก่), Thai style Hainanese chicken and rice. We each ordered a plate to get things started. Overall, very good, light fluffy rice with just the right amount if chicken oil, bouncy chicken, and fermented soybean sauce.
Price - 50 THB ($1.52)
Yee Jay (ยีเจ ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเนื้อตุ๋น-หมูตุ๋น) - Next we took a little walk through Silom, Downtown Bangkok, to another popular beef noodle shop. Again, it was my first time to eat here. We arrived before the main lunch rush, but at 11 am they were already preparing for the crowds with big amounts of meat waiting to be served. We had bowls of everything (เกาเหลาทุกอย่าง), including organs and braised beef. Their soup was fragrant with Chinese spices and the aroma of beef. It’s not the best bowl of braised beef soup in Bangkok, but it’s decent.
Price - 70 THB ($2.14)
Kuay Teow Khae (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวแคะ (โคตร โคตร) คอนแวนต์) - Finally for the main lunch, we went to one of the most popular Thai street food noodle stalls in Silom. For lunch everyday they are packed, every single seat, and if you arrive at a time like when we did, you have to wait to get a seat - sometimes 30 minutes or more. They have a few different options, but we all ordered their signature special bowl (เส้นโซบะยำแห้ง), including egg noodles topped with everything. This is one of the better single bowls of noodles in Bangkok in my opinion.
Price - 60 THB ($1.83)
Khanom Tokyo (ขนมโตเกียว (ลุงโตเกียว) - Lastly, to end this Thai street food tour in Bangkok, we were just walking past with Uncle Tokyo called us over to try his snacks. He makes both savory (with a hot dog) and sweet versions, filled with a variety of different custards. Drew and I had to try the hot dog, mostly just for fun… I’ll be honest, not a big fan of Thai hot dogs, but the sweet ones were great. And Uncle Tokyo is such a nice friendly man. If you are on Soi Convent in Silom around lunchtime, go say hi to him!
Price - 4 for 10 THB ($0.30)
And that completes this Thai street food tour in Silom, hope you enjoyed it!

Bangkok Street Food at Sukhumvit Soi 38 (สุขุมวิท ซอย 38)
Sukhumvit Soi 38 is a well known Bangkok street food street. Read the full post here:
When you visit Bangkok, one of the greatest things to do is explore the amazing Bangkok street food. You'll find delicious street food everywhere you look, and there are even certain streets where you'll find a higher concentration of street food carts, usually in the morning or at night. One of the most famous streets for eating a range of Thai street food dishes is Sukhumvit Soi 38 (by the way, soi is the Thai word for small street or side street). It's very easy to get there by just taking the BTS skytrain to Thong Lo station, and just down from the BTS you'll be right there. The street is located in an area of Bangkok where there are plenty of expats, especially Japanese.
But anyway, I'm going to first tell you that Sukhumvit Soi 38 does not have the best Bangkok street food. It's not the best selection of food, and what is available is good but not amazing. However, the street does present a very good place for an introduction to Thai street food, a street where you can sample a variety of Thai dishes from street food vendors. I had not been to Sukhumvit Soi 38 for a few years when I made this video (just because I usually try to explore new places), but one thing I was impressed with was that many of the vendors were very friendly - so that's a huge bonus when it comes to eating street food - and I think Suk Soi 38 makes a great place for an introduction to Thai street food in Bangkok.
I arrived at about 5 pm, and a few of the vendors still hadn't opened shop. If you go by around 6 pm or so, then most of the vendors should be ready and serving. As soon as you get to Soi 38, you'll see a small side street to your right hand side where you'll find a famous Pad Thai vendors, as well a number of other vendors, even one Korean and a Japanese street food cart - everyone is getting in on the action. If you keep going further down the street you'll find plenty of Bangkok street food vendors on both sides of the road. About 20 meters down the road, on the right hand side of the street you'll find a small food court like seating where about 3 or 4 vendors serve. We first ate at the yam (ยำ), or Thai salad stall, as I had heard that the som tam boo maa (ส้มตำปูม้า), Thai green papaya salad with blue crab was delicious. It was very good, nice and balanced, and the crab tasted pretty fresh to me. Along with another few Thai salads, it was a nice way to begin out Thai street food crawl on Suk Soi 38.
Continuing on, you'll discover all sorts of other street food stalls, serving Bangkok classic dishes like khao moo daeng (rice with red pork), khao man gai (rice chicken), and a host of other Thai noodles dishes, both fried and in soup. After walking the length of the street a few times, I decided just to go for a dish I rarely eat, known as khao man gai (chicken rice). I ordered khao man gai ruam (ข้าวมันไก่รวม), a mix of rice topped with both fried chicken and boiled chicken. It's not my favorite Thai street food dish, but it was alright, and especially the extra hits of fresh raw ginger and chilies really helped to increase the flavor. After street food meal in Bangkok, there's always an option for something sweet. I'm not really a sweet tooth myself, but since my wife enjoys sweet, we went to a famous place along the soi for dessert - Mook Dow Tung (มุกเต้าทึง) - located on the right hand side of the street - it's more of a shophouse than a street food stall. They are especially famous for their ice cream, and for their nam kang sai (shave ice with toppings). The ice cream was pretty good, homemade and creamy, and it tasted fresh and flavorful.
How to get to Sukhumvit Soi 38: It's really conveniently located, just of the Thong Lo BTS (ทองหล่อ) station in Bangkok. Take the BTS to Thong Long, get out at Exit 4, and you'll see the street with the street food vendors right below - you won't miss it.
Open hours: About 5 pm - 2 am daily, but depends on the vendor
Prices: Prices can be a bit higher than other Bangkok street food vendors, but still affordable at 40 - 50 THB per dish usually.

THAI HOUSING FLATS AROUND BANGKOK | Bangkok, Thailand
Thai housing flats around Bangkok, Thailand.
These Thai housing flats are located around Ari, in the PHAYA THAI district in Bangkok, Thailand.
There are clusters of flats all around this part of Ari. It was a nice quiet community of flats and I was surprised to see restaurants set up at the bottom of some flats.
You can see tables and chairs set up on the ground floor, almost in the parking lot.
On the ground floor of one of the falts, were some old, rundown play equipment. It's quite an eerie feeling when you see play equipment lying around like that with no kids or life around. It feels lifeless.

Bangkok to Thonburi - walking and bike tours in Thailand's capital city
This is the second in a series of challenge videos we filmed while we were there.
Bangkok is a big, glittering city of skyscrapers and glistening temples. But go beyond the usual big attractions like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, escape the shops of Siam Square and the nightlife of Sukhumvit Road and you'll unearth many other sides to the city.
We took tours of Thonburi - just across the Chao Praya from our hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok - by bike and on foot, boat and tuk-tuk. We found so much local life, culture and traditions. More than we'd unearthed on six previous visits to the city.
But the question is, how would you choose to see the city - by bike or on foot? Did we visit any of your favourite places? Where did we miss out on?
****************
We were in Thailand with Abercrombie & Kent where we undertook a number of challenges with them to take us closer to the Thai experience and culture.
During our trip, we stayed in luxury of course - Abercrombie & Kent is well known for that. In Bangkok we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, in Chiang Mai at 137 Pillars House, then we finished up with a stay at Banyan Tree Phuket. The accommodation was fantastic, but so was the service.
We were escorted on the trip by A&K guides, Sarah, Joey and Peo, whose knowledge and expertise of our destinations helped us connect ever deeper with Thailand.
But we also got closer to life in Thailand in a way that we hadn't in six previous visits to one of our favourite countries.
****************
Look out for more videos in this series of challenges. We also unearthed some fabulous traditional buys on a shopping challenge, learned to cook Thai food, Muay Thai boxing, Thai massage, local crafts and to make some heady sundowners.

Aran Garden Hotel 2 - Aranyaprathet
The 'Aran Garden Hotel 2' is a respectable place to stay if you arrive at Poipet border crossing to late and need a place to sleep. Staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and have air conditioning. Opposite the hotel is a bank and small cafes that offer food before you cross over the border.
