POGGIOREALE - La città dimenticata (URBEX)- Vlog Sicilia- Eng.Subt.
A lovely town destroyed by the Belice Valley earthquake in 1968, and eventually rebuilt in a safer place a few kilometers away, causing the entire population to be moved there.
Living behind all their memories and havings which probably could have been saved

RUINS of the ABANDONED OLD CITY OF NOTO in Sicily, Italy // 151
Today I went with my Workaway host and his friends to the old city of Noto. In the late 17th century, Noto was abandoned due to a terrible earthquake (10% of the city passed away) and moved into the valley. Noto was originally built atop a beautiful mountain, over looking the valleys surrounding it.
Now, the top of the mountain houses old tombs and other ruins from before the Arabic domination in Sicily. There was a whole flourishing city here, where today I can find wild asparagus, sage, and some very old rocks.
The Old Noto was humbling to walk through. It's a wonderful reminder of the turbulent history of Sicily. They say they're not Italian, and they hardly are. Sicily has belonged to 16 different dominations over the millennia, including most notably the Arabic, Greek, and Norman Vikings.
The New Noto is equally astounding in it's grandeur and Baroque presence.
If you're interested in traveling in Sicily, and exploring old ruins in Italy, then Noto must be on your list. Here, you can see an entire city, left to wither atop gorgeous mountains.

Counterfeit Luxary Bag Sellers in Naples, Italy
I'm intrigued by the economy of counterfeit bag sales and the lengths/creativity bag sellers use to avoid the authorities.
Train from Genoa to Milan, Italy
2 hours. 13.45 Euros (US $15). Genoa is home of Christopher Columbus but outside of a statue of him, there isn't much dedicated to the man nor much to see in Genoa. So Genoa is a Pass.
Milan is home of the Milan Cathedral which gets a Passing mention in art history books if any. Nonetheless it's on the way for me as I move onto Venice.

Craco: The Abandoned Medieval Ghost Town of Italy | New Discovery
Craco: The Abandoned Medieval Ghost Town of Italy | New Discovery
For nearly fifty years, the town of Craco in southern Italy has stood uninhabited. Here, dark windows look out at potential travelers like empty eye sockets and the streets and buildings of this medieval town seems to have literally been vacated overnight, left to crumble in decay. Craco was once a monastic center, a feudal town and center of education with a university, castle, church, and plazas. Today, thanks to the dramatic landscape and unique atmosphere, Craco has been the set of many movies including Saving Grace, James Bond Quantum of Solace and the hanging of Judas scene in Mel Gibson’s the Passion of the Christ.
