DRIVE LAKE GARDA
We start driving from Riva del Garda on the east side of the lake. The drive takes you through some really beautiful towns and villages: Torbole, Malcesine, Pai, Torri del Benaco a.s.o. I wish that we had time to stop and visit some places or just stop every 2 km to take pictures.
The drive takes around 1h 15 min., if you drive toward Verona, from Bardolino another 30 min.

Made of pebbles and with grass areas, Sabbioni Beach is one of the biggest and most well-equipped beaches of Lake Garda. It offers various services including beach chair and sunbed rental, a snack bar, showers and canoe hire from the Rowing Club. Furthermore, there is a floating platform that has a pool on the inside and a slide on the outside, a basketball court and a playground with trampolines and sand pits, for the entertainment of the whole family. There is also a large shaded area thanks to the park which boarders the beach.
The splendid Pine Beach, also known as Purfina, is made of pebbles and grass and has a vast green area. It’s much loved by young people, is well looked after and offers services and entertainment for all ages, including: a bar, showers, beach chair and sunbed rental, a small playground with a sand pit and a floating platform with a pool on the inside and a slide on the outside. Furthermore, being a haunt for windsurfers, Pini Beach has a dedicated area for the lovers of this sport, in front of the Bavaria Campground.
The green background that surrounds Miralago Beach makes it a pleasant place, ideal for sunbathing, reading a book or relaxing on the lake edge. It is a pebble beach and has an offshore platform. LAKE GARDA - PESCHIERA DEL GARDA
PESCHIERA DEL GARDA RISES RIGHT WHERE LAKE GARDA TIGHTENS AND BECOMES A RIVER, AND FLOWS TOWARDS THE CITY OF MANTUA AND THE RIVER PO. A BEAUTIFUL BIKE PATH STARTS HERE AND FOLLOWS THE FLOW OF THE RIVER MINCIO FOR OVER 25 MILES, CONNECTING THIS CITY TO MANTUA.
ONE OF THE MOST SUGGESTIVE AREAS OF PESCHIERA DEL GARDA IS THE ONE CLOSE TO THE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE THAT CROSSES THE EXTERNAL CANAL OF THE ANCIENT FORTRESS AT THE HEIGHT OF PORTA BRESCIA, THE ANCIENT WESTERN GATEWAY TO THE FORTRESS.
PESCHIERA DEL GARDA, TOGETHER WITH MANTUA, VERONA AND LEGNAGO IS PART OF A HUGE DEFENSIVE STRUCTURE BUILT BY THE AUSTRIANS.
THE CITY RISES ON AN ISLAND THAT OVER THE YEARS HAS BEEN EQUIPPED WITH DEFENSIVE WALLS AND BASTIONS TO ENSURE ITS SAFETY. AN ANCIENT PATROL WALKWAY THAT JOINS THE BASTIONS IS STILL ACCESSIBLE: DON'T MISS IT! BECAUSE WALKING ALONG IT WILL PLEDGE YOU A BEAUTIFUL VIEW OVER THE CITY AND YOU WILL APPRECIATE GLIMPSES THAT OTHERWISE YOU WOULD MISS.
AS YOU ENTER THE OLD TOWN AND FOLLOW THE DEFENSIVE WALLS, RIGHT BEYOND THE TOGNON BASTION YOU REACH THE HARBOR WHERE BOAT TRIPS LEAVE TO DISCOVER PESCHIERA DEL GARDA AND THE MAIN TOWNS ON THE LAKE. CONTINUING, YOU WILL FIND AN HISTORICAL BUILDING KNOWN AS THE “PALAZZINA DI COMANDO”.
IN THIS VERY BUILDING RIGHT AFTER THE DEFEAT OF CAPORETTO THE GLORIOUS RESISTANCE ON THE PIAVE RIVER WAS PLANNED; INSIDE, THE HALL WHERE ON NOVEMBER 8TH 1917 THE KING VITTORIO EMANUELE III AND THE ALLIES GATHERED FOR THE HISTORIC CONFERENCE IN PESCHIERA DEL GARDA. THAT ROOM HAS BEEN UNTOUCHED FOR OVER 100 YEARS!
THE TOUR OF THE DEFENSIVE WALLS LEADS TO THE VOLTONI BRIDGE, WITH BEAUTIFUL COTTO TILES ARCHES, OVERLOOKING THE CENTRAL CANAL WHERE THE FISHERMEN'S BOATS OF PESCHIERA DEL GARDA STAND ORDERLY. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE YOU CAN ALSO ADMIRE THE ISLET WITH ITS LUXURIANT VEGETATION, BEYOND WHICH THE WATERS OF LAKE GARDA POUR INTO THE RIVER MINCIO.
THANKS TO THE HISTORICAL RELEVANCE, THE SUNNY BEACHES, THE MOST POPULAR AMUSEMENT PARKS IN ITALY, TODAY PESCHIERA DEL GARDA IS A FIRST-RATE TOURIST CENTRE: HOTELS, CAMPSITES, HOLIDAY HOMES ARE LITERALLY RUSHED BY MORE THAN 800,000 TOURISTS EVERY YEAR. YOU KNOW, DURING THE SUMMER PESCHIERA DEL GARDA DOUBLE ITS POPULATION!
MANY EVENTS ARE ORGANIZED OVER THE YEAR:
• FESTIVAL OF STREET ARTISTS
• SAILING REGATTAS
• EXCURSIONS TO DISCOVER THE WINERIES IN THE SURROUNDINGS
• A TOWN FESTIVAL WITH THE VENETIAN STYLE RACE AROUND THE FORTRESS WALLS;
• FIREWORKS FROM THE VOLTONI BRIDGE;
• CAR RALLIES
AND SO ON
AND IN SUCH A PLACE OF COURSE YOU HAVE A LOTS OF RESTAURANTS, SHOPS, BARS, PUBS ... THE OLD TOWN OF PESCHIERA DEL GARDA IS FILLED WITH! AND ITS STREETS ARE UNLIVEN 24 HOURS A DAY BY TOURISTS AND LOCALS!
AMUSEMENT PARKS
IF YOU PLAN TO STAY IN PESCHIERA DEL GARDA FOR MORE DAYS I SUGGEST YOU TO SPEND SOME TIME IN ONE OF THE MANY AMUSEMENT PARKS THAT HAVE HELPED MAKING THIS TOWN POPULAR. THERE ARE MANY, BUT THE MOST FAMOUS ARE:
GARDALAND, WHICH OFFERS MANY ATTRACTIONS, RIDES, ROLLER COASTERS, SHOWS AND ALSO MANY RESTAURANTS AND EVEN TWO HOTELS.
CANEVAWORLD: THERE YOU HAVE A WATER PARK WITH MANY POOLS, ATTRACTIONS, SLIDES AND CHILL OUT AREAS, PLUS AN AMUSEMENT PARK CALLED “MOVIELAND”, DEDICATED TO MOVIES WITH STUNTMEN AND ACTORS WHO WILL SET-UP ENTERTAINING SHOWS TO MAKE YOU LIVE THE MAGIC OF HOLLYWOOD.
BEACHES
CAPPUCCINI BEACH: HALF A MILE FROM THE CENTER OF PESCHIERA, YOU REACH THE CAPPUCCINI BEACH, YOU FIND IT AFTER THE HARBOR, AT THE END OF LUNGOLAGO MAZZINI. THE ACCESS TO THE BEACH IS FREE, YOU CAN RENT SUNBEDS, DECKCHAIRS, THERE IS A RESTAURANT, AND CHILDREN CAN ALSO HAVE FUN IN THE PLAYGROUND WITH SLIDES, SWINGS AND TRAMPOLINES.
BRACCOBALDO BEACH: ANOTHER HALF A MILE TOWARDS SIRMIONE YOU CAN FIND THE BRACCOBALDO BEACH, ALSO EQUIPPED WITH ALL THE FACILITIES YOU MIGHT NEED, AND IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE FIRST BEACHES IN ITALY WHERE IS ALLOWED TO BRING YOUR DOG.
LIDO AI PIOPPI: FULLY EQUIPPED BEACH, YOU FIND IT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE OLD TOWN OF PESCHIERA DEL GARDA, TOWARDS CASTELNUOVO DEL GARDA.

Garda Village - Italy: Things to Do - What, How and Why to visit it
If you are planning to visit Garda village and Lake Garda, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the city, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Garda city.
In this video:
- WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including the old Garda town, Villa degli Albertini, Garda Fortress and Punta San Vigilio.
- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a daily-tour to better visit the city, with a clear map of Garda village and tips for nearby attractions.
Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Garda city, with his rich historic city center.
WHAT
Garda village, on the eastern shore of Garda Lake, is located between Bardolino and Torri del Benaco.
What can you do in Garda city?
Surely you can take a walk along the alleys of the center.
Here you can also find a lot of interesting shops.
And if that's not enough, you can have fun visiting the lakeside market on Friday.
Just outside the center, I suggest you give a look at Villa degli Albertini (16th century), with its lovely magnolia trees.
HOW
How could you visit Garda town?
If you still have energy after visiting the old town, here are three possible trips you could follow:
- trekking up to the remains of Garda fortress, standing 300 m over the town, which offers an amazing view over the whole lake.
- a walking towards Punta San Vigilio, a village within a small park.
- another option you have is to visit Bardolino, going south (watch my video on it).
WHY
Why visit Garda village?
Garda is not only a fascinating village, but divides the eastern shore of the lake into two, and therefore can be a convenient starting point for visiting all the attractions on this side of the lake. In addition, Garda city allows long walks along the lake, going north or south ... a real relax!

Exploring Lake Garda - The largest Lake in Italy!
Exploring Lake Garda - The largest Lake in Italy!
Lake Garda (Italian: Lago di Garda or Lago Bènaco, Latin: Benacus; Lombard: Lach de Garda; Venetian: Łago de Garda) is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north). The name Garda, which the lake has been seen referred to in documents dating to the eighth century, comes from the town of the same name.
The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Gruppo del Baldo. The shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Paleolithic glacier. Although traces of the glacier's actions are evident today, in more recent years it has been hypothesised that the glacier occupied a previously existing depression, created by stream erosion 5 to 6 million years ago.
The lake has numerous small islands and five main ones, the largest being Isola del Garda where in 1220 St. Francis of Assisi founded a monastery, in its place now stands a nineteenth-century building in the Venetian Gothic style. Nearby to the south is Isola San Biagio, also known as the Isola dei Conigli (Island of the Rabbits). Both are offshore of San Felice del Benaco, on the lake's western side. The three other main islands are Isola dell'Olivo, Isola di Sogno, and Isola di Trimelone, all farther north near the eastern side.
