1. Inverewe Garden Poolewe
Inverewe Garden is a botanical garden in the Scottish Highlands. It is located just to the north of Poolewe in Wester Ross, and is noted for the breadth of its collection. The garden was created in 1862 by Osgood Mackenzie on the 850 hectares estate bought for him by his mother. The original Inverewe Lodge was destroyed by fire in 1914 and replaced in 1937 by the current Inverewe House. The Garden covers some 20 hectares and has over 2,500 exotic plants and flowers. There is a further 2,000 acres of land managed for recreation and conservation. Aigas Field Centre is a nature centre based at the home of naturalist and author Sir John Lister-Kaye, Aigas House. The centre was opened in 1977 by ecologist Sir Frank Fraser Darling, and provides nature-based holidays for adults and environmental education services for school children. Inverewe Gardens, Poolewe to Applecross #11 Tuesday 26th JuneLeaving the beautiful Inverewe Gardens Campsite I was heading for Applecross. The weather was getting better and it was almost time for the air conditioning at a steady 70 degrees. The latter part of the drive was the most enjoyable, I prefer the long way round to Applecross rather than the Applecross Pass, the views are plentiful and there are many places to stop and take in the views! The campsite at Applecross can be very busy mid summer so booking is recommended.
A 5 minute walk ti the Inn takes you down to the front where there is ample seating outside, the food is excellent and the cosy bar friendly. It provides B&B and again booking is advised. A superb spot to end the day and watch the sunset of a cool drink!!

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Auchtermuchty, Scottish Gaelic: Uachdar Mucadaidh, meaning upland of the pigs a town in Fife. Until 1975 Auchtermuchty was a royal burgh, established under charter of King James V in 1517. There is evidence of human habitation in the area dating back over 2,000 years, and the Romans are known to have established a camp in the south east corner of the town. In the past, the linen industry was a major source of work in the town, but in the early 18th century the firm of John White was established, bringing the town its first foundry, there were two eventually. There was even a whisky distillery in operation from 1829 to 1929, when Prohibition in the U.S.A. led to its closure. The town was used as the location for Tannochbrae in the 1990s ITV series Dr. Finlay. Craig Reid and Charles Reid were born in Leith on 5 March 1962, and grew up in Edinburgh, Cornwall and Auchtermuchty. When they lived in Auchtermuchty they attended Bell Baxter High School. Aircraft Accident Details
At the time of the accident, this B-24 was on its way home after the war (in Europe) to the United States via Keflavík (Meeks Field) in Iceland. The aircraft had left Prestwick and its route should have taken it over Stornoway in the Western Isles, enroute to Iceland. It is not known why it was overflying the Scottish mainland.
On board was a nine-man 'Ketchum' crew from 66th Bomber Squadron together with six other crewmen from Air Transport Command.
For some reason—perhaps a technical problem—the aircraft began to lose height while over Wester Ross in NW Scotland. At one point, the B-24 glanced the summit of Slioch, a 980m peak overlooking Loch Maree and not far from Kinlochewe. (Incidentally, facing Slioch on the opposite shore of the Loch is Beinn Eighe—the site of an Avro Lancaster crash)
In the process of striking the top of Slioch, the B-24 may have lost some parts of its bomb bay doors. However, the aircraft continued in flight for some considerable distance to Gairloch. At this point, it seems, the pilot was attempting to make a crash-landing. Unfortunately, however, his aircraft appears to have struck the rocky outcrops around the Fairy Lochs. Almost immediately, the B-24 crashed, scattering wreckage over a wide area.

Don't forget to thumbs up and subscribe if you like my videos.A short video of our first day doing the North Coast 500 road trip. After reaching Inverness from Livingston, we headed north from Inverness to Chanonry point for our first stop and were very lucky to spot dolphins and seals.
From there we headed west stopping at Rogie Falls heading for our overnight stay at Applecross Campsite via the famous Bealach Na Ba (Pass of the Cattle)
We also got to follow a nice TVR Cerbera for a while.
