One of the most beautiful railways in the world has had one of its most successful summers on record. The 20km train ride from Flam, at the end of the Unesco-protected Aurlandsfjord, through precipices and past huge waterfalls to a height of 866m at Myrdal, in Western Norway, is regarded as an engineering marvel because of the steep gradient. BBC News took a ride in the company of veteran guard Knut Kvamme. Video Journalist: Malcolm Brabant

Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort Tour - Dominican Republic
Watch all our Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo videos here:
This is the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort located just outside the town of Las Terrenas in the Samaná Province of the Dominican Republic. We traveled to this all-inclusive hotel in December/January with the charter holiday company Star Tour which is the same charter company and shares the same logo as the British Thomson Holidays. This video is a slow walking tour around the grounds of the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo. The aim of the footage is to provide viewers with the feel, atmosphere and sounds of the resort on a normal day while on holiday. We hope that the footage will help travellers (who have not visited before) make a decision as to whether or not to visit this All-Inclusive Resort and to travellers who have been here before we hope you enjoy viewing what should be familiar sights from your holiday at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo. On the tour of this resort you will view the hotel lobby (where the reception and many of the bars and restaurants are located), the evening entertainment area (where song and dance shows start every night around 22:00), the Tennis court / basketball court (one tennis court that doubles as a basketball court for all hotel guests to share), the Children´s Water Park (lovely water park area with swimming pool bar next to the pool), the hotels smaller quiet swimming pool, a look at the inside of the resorts Gym, a look at the Resort Spa and their Jacuzzi area, a quick view of the Bahia Scouts childrens babysitting building, a view of the Las Olas Beach Restaurant where the breakfast setting is just ending, the beachfront area between the Las Olas Restaurant and the Beach Bar, the beachfront Jacuzzi and the beach front bar, a good view of the main swimming pool including its bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, the games area which includes outdoor Foosball, two pool tables, two table tennis tables, a Pétanque and Shuffleboard court and more. We end the video in the Daiquiri Bar.
The Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo is an all inclusive resort located in the Dominican Republic just outside the old fishing town of Las Terrenas in the Samana Province, an area which is becoming more and more popular with tourists from the Americas (North + South) and Europe. This hotel was particularly popular with tourists from Canada (many French speakers from Quebec).

Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive Resort - East beach walk - Dominican Republic
Watch all our Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo videos here:
This is a walking tour of the beach which lies to the east of the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo All-inclusive resort. The beach is called El Portillo Beach and our walk starts in the middle of the main beach area at the resort. We proceed past the lifeguard tower and make our way out towards the east end of the beach. When we leave the hotel area we even meet some kitesurfers in full action. The Saman´beaches are rather windy so this area is a true paradise for kitesurfers. If you have any questions about the beach at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo please feel welcome to ask us in the comments field below. We travelled to the Dominican Republic with Star Tour, the same charter travel agency called ARKE in the Netherlands and Thomson Holidays in the United Kingdom.

Las Terranas Town, Samana Province, Dominican Republic - Caribbean island holiday
Watch all our Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo videos here:
We are in the town of Las Terrenas located in the Samaná province of the Dominican Republic. This is a walking tour of the town which starts on the Las Terranas main road and also includes a walk on the beach road. We where there in December and this is actually New Year (31/12). The video follows our walk up the main road where we try to give the viewer an idea of the atmosphere of this rather small Caribbean island fishing town. The main road offers tourists a limited number of shops, restaurants and excursion sale agents. On the beach road there are a few more restaurants and bars and also a very limited local shopping center. As tourists who enjoy visiting local towns in the destinations we visit we where rather disappointed with the Town of Las Terranas. Our opinion (just our opinion) was that the town lacked the local (Dominican) business and culinary experiences that you for example meet in Asia. Street kitchens etc. although local art was very abundant!! The Les Terranas area is full of hotels catering to all needs. Many of the hotels are big all inclusive resorts which are very popular with Canadian and American tourists, also the European charter tourists who typically seem to stay at these resorts for 14 days (just as we ourselves did).

The attractions of this region is constantly growing due to investment in tourist buildings like hotels, clubs, restaurants and shopping such places as Port Plaza las Terrenas, with a similar architecture of a boat. In the evenings entertainment centers are crowded by hundreds of tourists and like their restaurants with a wonderful view of the beach...

Playas Salou. Salou Beaches
Salou has miles of golden sandy beaches which stretch as far as the neighbouring Costa Dorada resorts of Cambrils and La Pineda. The sand shelves gently into the safe, shallow waters of the Mediterranean making the beaches here ideal for small children. Watersports enthusiasts will be in paradise too as Salou offers a wealth of activities down at the seafront.
The longest and most popular of the resort's sandy beaches is Platja Llevant, flanked by the one-kilometre long Paseo Maritimo seafront promenade. Here you'll find the main centre of the summertime action with a huge range of sports, leisure and pleasure activities.
The beach has children's play areas, a sports area, beach huts, showers, bars, restaurants and ice-cream kiosks. Sun beds and shades are available for hire and for the more active types there's jet ski-ing, water ski-ing, kayaking, sailing, parasailing and windsurfing. There are regular boat excursions along the coastline, including trips to the neighbouring fishing village of Cambrils.
Llevant Beach is 1,200 metres long but can still get a bit crowded in high season. Regular cleaning of the sand, water testing and Red Cross patrols ensure high standards of hygiene and safety. In fact, due to great efforts on the part of the local authorities here, Salou can quite justifiably claim to boast some of the cleanest and safest beaches in the whole of the Mediterranean.
Between Llevant and the town centre is Avenida Jaume I, the main artery running alongside the seafront. This palm-fringed avenue is peppered with children's play parks, parking lots, plants and street cafes. The illuminated fountains and permanent funfair are at the end of avenue.
In the old days when mixed bathing was socially unacceptable, Llevant was the men's beach and nextdoor Ponent, on the other side of the port, was reserved for women bathers! Ponent is one kilometre long and runs all the way to the next resort of Cambrils. This beach is also well served with bars, restaurants and water sports.
The smaller Platja dels Capellans, reached from Bruselles Street, is 220 metres long with good tourist facilities and high standards of cleanliness which consistently earn it the European Blue Flag. Platja Larga is a 600-metre sandy beach, bordered by pine trees alongside the Salou-Tarragona coast road.
Platja dels Llenguadets is a small cove that can only be reached on foot from Tortosa Street. Facilities are limited but you can buy ice-creams and soft drinks and hire sunshades and pedaloes.
Platja Cala de la Font beach, reached from Led Dunes Street, takes its name from the font or freshwater spring that flowed permanently here until a few years ago. Platja Penya-Tallada, a 125-metre long cove of great natural beauty, is worth a visit if you fancy taking a break from the frantic activity of the main beachfront area. You can buy drinks at these coves but you won't find all the tourist trappings of the main beaches.
There are a number of small, isolated coves around the Cap Salou promontory. The most eastern and one of the most attractive is Platja Cala Cranc which is a beautiful 50-metre cove, reached via the Faro de Salou road.

Exploring the Spanish Canals in Seville
Day 2 of our road trip through Spain, we drive through some ridiculously tight streets, and venture to Seville where they filmed scenes from Star Wars and bunch of other famous movies. Parker orders some Lamb Brains at a fancy restaurant, and we finish the day with a cute little boat tour through the canals. Up next, the beautiful white city of Vejer!
