Hello from Rio de Janeiro! This was our first stop in Brazil and we were very excited to check out the top attractions, sample Brazilian cuisine, and squeeze in a little bit of beach time. We had an action packed week exploring the different neighbouhoods and trying everything from churrasco to brigadeiro, so we decided to film a city guide along the way. 25 Things to do in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Travel Guide and Top Attractions Transcript:
First up, we started with the city’s most iconic sight: Christ Redeemer. We boarded the train as soon as the station opened and made our way to the top of Corcovado Mountain. Sometimes the statue can be shielded by fog, but we lucked out with beautiful blue skies and panoramic views of the city as far as the eye could see.
For a bit of colour, we headed over to the Selaron Steps, which is a tiled staircase created by Chilean artist, Jorge Selarón. Initially Selaron would scavenge construction sites looking for tiles, but in later years as his work gained notoriety, travellers began donating tiles.
Since we chose to stay in the neighbourhood of Ipanema, we ended up spending quite a bit of time at Ipanema Beach. We noticed that this beach was really popular for beach football, volleyball, and surfing. And of course, what makes this beach so iconic are its two mountains, known as Dois Irmãos. If you come here on a clear day, you can catch a killer sunset.
No visit to Rio de Janeiro would be complete without heading up Sugarloaf Mountain, so when the skies finally cleared that’s exactly what we did. We paid for our tickets and boarded the cable car for a somewhat unnerving ride up. If you’re scared of heights, this probably isn’t the attraction for you, however, if you manage to make it to the top you get some really cool panoramic views of Rio.
Copacabana Beach is the most famed beach in all of Rio de Janeiro and if you were to visit on a weekend during the summer months you’d find that the place is packed beyond belief. We happened to be here in winter so things were a lot more relaxed, but that didn’t stop visitors from braving the waters.
We did a favela tour to Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. On our tour we saw lots of street art, learned about life inside a favela.

A Região Sul do Brasil é a menor das cinco regiões do país, com área territorial de 576 774,31 km². Ela faz parte da Região Centro-Sul do Brasil. A região se divide em três unidades federativas: Paraná, Santa Catarina e Rio Grande do Sul, sendo limitada ao norte pelos estados de São Paulo e Mato Grosso do Sul, ao sul pelo Uruguai, a oeste pelo Paraguai e pela Argentina, além de ser banhada a leste pelas águas do oceano Atlântico. Ela é a única região brasileira localizada na porção sul abaixo da zona tropical, com as estações do ano variando nitidamente; contudo, a parte norte situa-se acima do Trópico de Capricórnio. No inverno, caem geadas e, com maior raridade, neve. O relevo da Região Sul do Brasil tem uma pequena quantidade de acidentes geográficos, predominando um grande planalto, geralmente, de pequena elevação.
A maior característica da Região Sul do Brasil é o modo de colonização e o tipo de colonizadores recebidos. A Região Sul do Brasil começou a ser colonizada durante os séculos XVII e XVIII. Em 1648, os portugueses foram os fundadores da vila de Paranaguá, a mais antiga cidade da Região Sul do Brasil e do Paraná. As populações recebidas pela região foram uma pequena quantidade de escravos africanos, porém, uma grande quantidade de imigrantes vieram do Uruguai, da Argentina, dos Açores, da Espanha, da Alemanha, da Itália, da Polônia, da Ucrânia, dos Países Baixos, entre outros. A característica populacional dada pelos europeus que contribuíram para o processo de formação da sociedade brasileira do século XIX foi a predominante etnia caucasiana, sendo deixadas na paisagem características dos países de onde originaram (casas, transportes, uso do solo). Os europeus foram os introdutores do sistema de pequenas e médias fazendas. A ciência agrícola trazida da Europa para o Sul do Brasil foi a viticultura, adaptada à Serra Gaúcha.
A população das cidades da Região Sul cresceu muito nos anos mais recentes. As cidades mais populosas da Região Sul do Brasil são, em ordem de quantidade de moradores, Curitiba e Porto Alegre. O desenvolvimento industrial foi iniciado nas décadas mais recentes, principalmente no Rio Grande do Sul, nordeste de Santa Catarina e Região Metropolitana de Curitiba. Na região de Criciúma, em Santa Catarina, estão localizadas quase a totalidade das reservas de exploração de carvão no Brasil. O potencial energético, que as inúmeras cachoeiras dos rios das bacias hidrográficas do Paraná e do Uruguai representam, é muito aproveitado, nos dias atuais, nas usinas hidrelétricas como a de Machadinho, próximo a Piratuba.
A Região Sul propriamente dita é um grande polo turístico, econômico e cultural, abrangendo grande influência europeia, principalmente de origem italiana e germânica. A região Sul apresenta índices sociais acima da média brasileira e das demais regiões em vários aspectos: possui o maior IDH do Brasil, 0,756, e o terceiro maior PIB per capita do país. A região é também a mais alfabetizada, 95,2% da população, e a com menor incidência de pobreza.
Turismo
O Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, onde se localizam as Cataratas do Iguaçu, é uma Unidade de Conservação brasileira. Ele está localizado no extremo-oeste do estado do Paraná, tendo sido criado em 10 de janeiro de 1939, através do decreto lei nº 1.035. Sua área total é de 185.262,2 hectares. Em 1986, recebeu o título de Patrimônio Mundial pela UNESCO.
Durante os dias quentes de verão, as praias catarinenses são procuradas e frequentadas por turistas do Brasil inteiro e de outros países. Florianópolis, atrás apenas das cidades do Rio de Janeiro (RJ) e Salvador (BA), é uma das capitais brasileiras mais visitadas. Com o fim da crise econômica nos países do Mercosul, parte do movimento de argentinos, uruguaios e paraguaios voltou ao proveito do turismo de verão, em cidades balneárias tais como Balneário Camboriú e Barra Velha. São pontos turísticos os patrimônios da humanidade: Cataratas do Iguaçu no Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, no Paraná e as Ruínas Jesuítico-Guaranis de São Miguel das Missões, no Rio Grande do Sul.
As serras gaúcha e catarinense atraem turistas no inverno rigoroso, que aproveitam as temperaturas mais baixas e a neve, em cidades como Gramado (RS), a cidade turística mais representativa do gênero no país, Canela (RS) e Urubici (SC). Em Cambará do Sul (RS), localiza-se o Parque Nacional de Aparados da Serra, onde fica o cânion do Itaimbezinho.

What I love most about Brazil: beaches! Buzios beach resort is a short road trip from Rio de Janeiro, just over 100 miles/160 km. In Buzios there are 23 beaches, very different from each other. In this vlog, I'll visit some of my favorites to try to find out if the water temperature really varies. The southside beaches receive the cold stream from Antarctica while the northside beaches receive the warm stream from the Equator.

► Buzios: The official name of the city is 'Armação dos Búzios', but everyone just refers to it as Búzios. This is a beach resort in the state of Rio de Janeiro and a popular getaway for Brazilians and Argentinians. Primarily an unknown fishing village until the 1960s, it was made famous by French actress Brigitte Bardot.
► Geriba beach: One of the most famous beaches of Buzios it runs for 2 kilometers (1.24 miles). With waves and an active ocean, it's perfect for surfing and wind sailing. It is surrounded by inns, bars, and restaurants and is a favorite of Brazilians.
► Ferradura beach: A modest beach with plenty to do. Calm waters entice families to spend the day and with plenty of stalls to service your hunger and thirst.
► Joao Fernandes beach: A beach with some of the calmest waters, it has easy access with plenty of accommodations on the surrounding hills. Any trip to Buzios should include a stop at this beach a 30-minute walking distance from town center.
► Porto da Barra: A complex of bars and restaurants on the shore perfectly situated to watch the sunset. Walk the jetty or stroll the beachside path and people watch closing out the day.
