  • 1. Trsat Castle Rijeka
    Trsat Castle is a castle in Trsat, Croatia. It is thought that the castle lies at the exact spot of an ancient Illyrian and Roman fortress. The Croatian noble Vuk Krsto Frankopan is buried in one of the churches. The Trsat castle was completely reconstructed and renovated in the 19th century when the mausoleum of the military commander Laval Nugent was built in its interior. The courtyard of the castle has now been turned into a restaurant and many tourists visit the place during the summer months.

    Vrbnik is a small Croatian town on the east coast of the island of Krk. The town is perched on a limestone outcropping 50m above the Adriatic Sea. Vrbnik is naturally separated from mainland Croatia by the Vinodol Channel, where the towns of Crikvenica & Novi Vinodolski can be observed across the sea. Since 1980 the island has been connected to mainland Croatia via the Krk Bridge. Originally a walled town, Vrbnik was established in medieval times. The town itself has a population of 944 ; there are a total of 1,245 people in the municipality of Vrbnik, which includes three other nearby villages (Garica with 149 inhabitants , Kampelje with 6 inhabitants , and Risika with 146 inhabitants .

Buildings in the city are mainly constructed out of the same material as the surrounding cliffs, a lesser part dates back to a former settlement of ancient Romans. There are two well-preserved extant city gates on the North and South of the city as well a wall in the East. It was nominated to be a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.
