Saigon eat and drink, gourmet dinners, deluxe breakfast
We're in Saigon, Vietnam. It's a very reasonable place to visit, pricewise. We are going out for a night on the town for an extravagant dinner. When you're in a country like Vietnam, as a Western traveler, you can also eat at a sidewalk restaurant, moderate scale, very comfortable, great food, or go all the way upscale to five-star dining at the Sofitel Hotel, one of the more deluxe accommodations in town. And so of course they have a great restaurant. The prices are not cheap but by Western standards they are reasonable for this high quality of dining, so why not splurge a little bit?

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore
The Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, (VITM), Bangalore, India, a constituent unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, was established in memory of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya. The building, with a built up area of 4,000 m2 (43,000 sq ft), was constructed in Cubbon Park. It houses various scientific experiments and engines, and was opened by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on 14 July 1962. The first gallery set up at VITM, on the theme of 'Electricity', was opened to the public on 27 July 1965.
In order to honour Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, the All India Manufacturers’ Organisation, Mysore State Board, decided to set up a science and technology museum at Bangalore, and the foundation stone was laid by Shri B. D. Jatti, Chief Minister of Mysore, on 15 September 1958. The Visvesvaraya Industrial Museum Society (VIMS) came to be registered as the nodal agency in order to pool resources from various industrial houses. A building with a display space of 4,000 m2 (43,000 sq ft), which was constructed in Cubbon Park, houses displays of industrial products and engines. it was opened by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on 14 July 1962.
However, the society felt that the southern region lacked a science museum. The eastern region already had a science museum in Calcutta under CSIR, which was quite popular, and on the Society’s request CSIR took over VITM. The society nominated a permanent representative to the executive committee of VITM, and on 27 July 1965, VITM opened in Bangalore with the first gallery on the theme of ‘Electricity’.
In the year 1970, VITM launched the Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) with 24 participatory exhibits mounted on a bus. The MSE Bus travels throughout South India, and it continues to be a very effective tool for Science communication in the rural area as the bus carries with it a portable planetarium, telescope for night sky observations, HD large screen TV for science film shows in the evenings, materials for conducting popular science shows and demonstrations aimed towards the general populace.
In 1978, the science museums/centres including VITM were delinked from CSIR and brought under a newly-formed society registered on 4 April 1978 as National Council of Science Museums (NCSM). In 1979, an extension was added to the building, increasing the total area of the museum to 6,900 m2 (74,000 sq ft).

66 million years old hill in Mumbai - Gilbert Hill - Heritage Structure
Gilbert Hill
66 Million Year Old Single Rock in Mumbai
200 ft (61 m) or Approx 22 Storey high
Formed from Molten Lava in Pre Historic Era
Declared National Park & Heritage Structure
Now greatly neglected and in poor condition
Gilbert Hill is a 200 ft (61 m) monolith column of black basalt rock at Andheri, in Mumbai, India. The rock has a sheer vertical face and was formed when molten lava was squeezed out of the Earth's clefts during the Mesozoic Era about 66 million years ago. During that era, molten lava had spread around most of the Indian states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, covering an area of 50,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi). The volcanic eruptions were also responsible for the destruction of plant and animal life during that era.
Gilbert Hill, a monolith column of Black Basalt
According to experts, this rare geological phenomenon was the remnants of a ridge and had clusters of vertical columns in nearby Jogeshwari which were quarried off two decades ago. These vertical columns are similar to the Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, and the Devils Postpile National Monument in eastern California, USA.
Gilbert Hill was declared a National Park in 1952 by the Central Government under the Forest Act. In 2007, after years of lobbying by geologists, the hill was declared a Grade II heritage structure by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), and all quarrying and other activities around the monument were prohibited. Over the period of time, Gilbert Hill has faced severe erosion problems too.
Atop the rock column, two Hindu temples, the Gaodevi and Durgamata temples, set in a small garden, are accessed by a steep staircase carved into the rock. The hill offers a panoramic view of suburban Mumbai.
Efforts are being made to convert Gilbert Hill into a tourist attraction and include it as stop on tour of Mumbai by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

Dussehra Festival 2014 - Burning Ravana Effigies in Amritsar, India
Dussehra is the final day of the Navaratri festival, one of the major Hindu festivals celebrated across India. It is essentially a battle of good versus evil, whereby the evil is depicted by the demon Ravana.
All over India, and especially in the North, huge Ravana effigies are built in central areas of cities and towns. As the sun goes down, the effigies are set on fire, creating a massive display of fireworks.
This video was made in October 2014 in Amritsar from a rooftop, overseeing a central park. Huge crowds gathered here to watch the giant puppets (effigies) explode.
