Places to see in ( Pizzo - Italy )
Places to see in ( Pizzo - Italy )
Pizzo, also called Pizzo Calabro, is a seaport and comune in the province of Vibo Valentia, situated on a steep cliff overlooking the Gulf of Santa Eufemia. Fishing is one of the main activities, including that of tuna and coral.
As with many other places in Calabria, Pizzo claims ancient origins. The town may have been founded by colonists from an unknown site in ancient Magna Grecia, but there is currently no documentary or archeological evidence to support this. Consequently, the history of Pizzo begins in 1300 when the existence of a community of Basilian monks, a fort, and a fishing village is documented . The name Pizzo (translated either as bird's beak or projecting point) fits perfectly with the tuffa promontory that juts out into the sea near the mouth of the river Angitola.
For centuries tuna was trapped in the beaches around Pizzo, especially in the months of May and June. Despite fading in importance over time this activity continued until the 1970s in the Centofontane area, where nets were spread to corral tuna from offshore. Ruins of the activity remain. The activity is now banned. The Piedigrotta and Prangi areas include some sea caves, and the cave of the Saracen, although largely eroded today, was supposedly used by Saracen pirates to store booty and people captured during their raids along the coast of Calabria.
The former King of Naples Joachim Murat, who was the brother-in-law of Napoleon, was imprisoned for several days in the town's Aragonese castle and then sentenced to death. He was executed by firing squad on October 13, 1815, in the main hall of the castle and was possibly buried in the church of San Giorgio. Paradoxically, the castle is now called Castello Murat. Inside the castle is the Provincial Museum Murat. In 1783 the town was almost destroyed by an earthquake, and it suffered some damage from the same cause in 1905.
It has an old castle, built by the Aragonese in the 15th century, in which Joachim Murat, ex-king of Naples, was shot on October 13, 1815. Other sights include the Baroque church of St. George (1632) and the cave church of Piedigrotta (17th century)
( Pizzo - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Pizzo . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Pizzo - Italy

Pescara - italy
See the best accommodations Pescara is the capital city of the Province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. As of 1 January 2007 it was the most populated city within Abruzzo at 123,059 residents, approximately 450,000 including the surrounding metropolitan area. Located on the Adriatic coast at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara River, the present-day municipality was formed in 1927 joining the municipalities of Pescara, the part of the city to the south of the river, and Castellamare Adriatico, the part of the city to the north of the river. The surrounding area was formed into the province of Pescara. The poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, a native of Pescara, was a major sponsor for the creation of the new city.
The main commercial street of the city is Corso Umberto I, which runs from Piazza della Republica and reaches the seacoast at Piazza Primo Maggio. The rectangle that it forms with Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Nicola Fabrizi encloses the main shopping district, where several of the best fashion shops are located. Corso Manthonè, the course of the old Pescara has, for many years, been the center of the nightlife of the city. City hall and the administration of the province are in Piazza Italia, near the river, and in the area between here and the faculties of Economics, Architecture, Foreign Languages and Literature of G. d'Annunzio University to the south, a business district has grown up over the years. To the immediate south of the mouth of the river is the marina. Pescara has also an important international airport, called Abruzzo Airport and one of the most important and major touristic ports of Adriatic Sea and Italy, the Port of Pescara.
Cosenza - Calabria, Italy
Cosenza is a major city in Calabria with a population of roughly 70,000 people. At one time it belonged to Naples and even today it bears some resemblance to that much larger city to the north. It is rustic, run down, chaotic but charming at the same time. While it is not a tourist destination, a visit will not be regretted. You can see a lot on a one day visit.

Capo Vaticano Self Catering - Holiday Apartments Near Tropea
Self Catering apartments offered for rent near Capo Vaticano and Tropea. The Capo Vaticano Self Catering apartments at Il Casale, are a hidden away treasure situated in the heart of the stunning Calabrian countryside. There are 2 blocks with only 5 apartments in each block. On the top floor of each block, there are two separate apartments. Whilst both of these apartments are two bed apartments, they are both bigger in overall size than the 3 bed apartments on the ground floor. The top floor penthouse apartments provide the best views over towards the sea and the surrounding countryside.
There are 3 separate apartments on the ground floor of each block, consisting of a 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and a three bedroom apartment. Each apartment offers its own private terrace so you can unwind in peace, sunbathe or even for dine al fresco.
The Capo Vaticano Self Catering apartments at Il Casale are established in their own exclusive gated grounds, about an acre in size. The grounds have been lovingly landscaped by the owners of the development. There is a swimming pool for all the residents to enjoy, which is kept clean making use of the more modern UV disinfection method as compared to utilizing chlorine. This is a great benefit to anyone that suffers allergies as well as being gentler on your skin and specifically ones eyes. Absolutely no more red-coloured irritated eyes following your swim. There is also large communal BBQ and an exclusive picnic area in the nearby pine woodland.
The whole complex is completely bordered by beautiful Italian farmland. Behind the complex there is a cultivated farm area in which they grow the renowned Tropean red onions and also red peppers. Adjacent to the complex you will see a small private vineyard and an olive tree grove. In fact to reach the complex itself, you will need to drive about half a kilometre down a farm road from the main road, thus guaranteeing your solitude from passing road traffic.
The closest hamlet is Panaia, less than a kilometre away, but regrettably there are no shops or bars there. The most nearby village of any note, where you can buy basic necessities is Ricadi, about one and half kilometres away. You will find a mini local supermarket, bakeries, chemist, post office and a couple of bars. One can walk there without going along the main road by following the path all the way down the hill away from the compound, but be cautioned it is a difficult track and it is not the most direct route, but if you would like to explore the vicinity in more detail and take in the lovely hamlet of Lampazzone along the way, then this is our favoured option if you are not in a rush. Ricadi does have a traditional market once a week. Just a bit further on from Ricadi, there is Brivadi and then San Nicolo with more shops and bars for you to explore.
The other nearest town is called Spilinga. This town is larger and offers more variety in the number of shops, bars, restaurants and charming places to explore such as the shrine La Madonna della Fontana of Spilinga.
Tropea is an urban area located within the province of Vibo Valentia, in Calabria (southern Italy). The town is a popular bathing place, situated on a reef, in the gulf of St. Euphemia connected with the mainland by a narrow strip in the Tyrrhenian Sea, toward the south with respect to Vibo Valentia and northward with respect to Ricadi and Capo Vaticano.
Tropea is about fifteen kms away and here you will find everything one will need for ones stay. There are larger super markets along the road to Tropea and in Tropea itself, you will find many restaurants, bars, local shops and markets which sell everything from freshly baked bread, locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, freshly caught fish as well as clothes shops, jewellery shops and wine shops which specialise in supplying all the local wines and even freshly pressed local olive oil. Not forgetting of course the local speciality, the Tropean red onion and 'Nduja. ('Nduja is a spicy spreadable sausage made with pork. It is a Calabrian variation of salami, 'Nduja originates from the southern part of Calabria, namely from the small town of Spilinga and its neighborhood. 'Nduja is mainly served with slices of bread or with ripe cheese. Its unique taste makes it suitable for a variety of dishes. For example, it can be added to pasta sauces).
About the same distance away from the Capo Vaticano Self Catering complex as Tropea, but in the opposite direction, you will find the provincial capital of the region, Vibo Valentia. This town isn't on most people's tourist list of places to visit, but it is a hidden gem all on its own if you can make the time to fit it in to your schedule whilst you are in the area. At the top of the old town you will find an old Norman castle. Well worth a visit just for the views alone.
