Exploring Arkansas: The Natural State (February 2019)
In this episode P. Allen Smith explores Arkansas, The Natural State.
Topics Include:
The Arkansas Delta
Paddling the Mississippi River: Quapaw Canoe Company (Helena, AR)
Arkansas Agriculture
Subiaco Abbey (Subiaco, AR)
Habanero Hot Sauce Recipe: Monk Sauce
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (Bentonville, AR)
The Unexpected (Fort Smith, AR)
Allen begins his journey in the Arkansas Delta where he paddles his way up the Mighty Mississippi to Buck Island. The public land is a nature lovers paradise with 900 acres of native forests and sand beaches.
Next, Allen digs into Arkansas' rich agricultural history with a surprising stop at a monastery. There he finds what might be the spiciest monk of all time and one tasty hot sauce.
Allen then highlights Arkansas' booming art scene, by making a stop in Northwest Arkansas where he visits the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and a little something of The Unexpected in Fort Smith.

Tri-State Marker - Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma (Near Downstream Casino)
Checking out the hidden Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma Tri-State Marker, which is just by Downstream Casino! Worth a little stop and a picture! :) You can access this place 24/7
-----
If you can't make it to Four Corners (the only place where four states meet), this is nearly as good, and it's free, and it's open 24/7.
According to a plaque at the three-state spot, it took an 800-member expedition to map it. They spent nearly six months in 1857 walking only 40 miles from the southwest Missouri border, hampered by rough terrain, heavy timber, and high water. And we enjoy the benefits of their labor; thank you, hardy pioneers!
A massive stone cairn was built at the spot in 1938 by the National Youth Administration, but a weathered plaque on the cairn notes that it doesn't mark the actual spot, which is 50 feet east. This was rectified in Oct. 2004, when the Missouri Association of County Surveyors embedded a stand-here plaque in the ground on the actual three-state spot, which, conveniently, is at the end of a dead-end road. Stand on three states, with easy parking, too.
Stand on Three States: Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma
Address:
118th St., Quapaw, OK
Directions:
I-44 exit 1 in Missouri. Drive NW a half-mile on US Hwy 400. Enter the traffic circle and drive three-quarters around. Exit right (west) onto Downstream Blvd, then make the first left onto 118th St. (a gravel road). The marker is set into the dead-end of that road, and there's a large rock cairn as well.

NAVIDADES EN LITTLE ROCK-ARKANSAS CON ISHYMIAMI vlog 012
