Einsame Dschungel-Wanderung auf Sao Miguel zu den Wasserfällen - Salto do prego + Salto do Cagarrão
In aller Einsamkeit ganz im Südosten der Insel Sao Miguel liegt in einem kleinen Tal direkt am Meer der 400-Einwohner-Ort: Faial da Terra. Etwas oberhalb von Faial da Terra, im Ortsteil Burguete starten wir unsere Wanderung.Zunächst geht es bergauf an dem Flüsschen Ribeira do Faial da Terra, wir passieren eine erst kürzlich aufgegebene Wassermühle und dringen dann in absolut einsame Wildnis ein. Leicht bergan am Fluss entlang bis zu einer Brücke, dahinter geht es steil den Berg hinauf, höher als der Fluss. An einer Weggabelung 300 Höhenmeter weiter oben gehen wir rechts, am Ende schließlich wieder steil hinab ins Tal zum eindrucksvollen Wasserfall Salto do prego. Nach einer Essenspause steigen wir auf einem über dem Wasserfall blind endenden Pfad hinauf und blicken von oben auf den Wasserfall mit seinem schönen Wasserbecken.
Nun geht es dieses Stück wieder zurück bis zur Weggabelung. Hier nun auf dem Weg weiter bergan, 4 Holzstege leiten uns über Einschnitte der Schlucht. an einer Lichtung geht es sogleich wieder in die subtropische Pflanzenwildnis hinein. die Ilha Verde (grüne Insel) macht ihrem Namen besonders in dieser Talschlucht alle Ehre. Erst leicht bergab über 4 weitere Holzbrücken, schließlich sehr steil abwärts geht es zum zweiten großen Wasserfall unserer Wanderung, den Salto do Cagarrão .
Abgesehen von einem Trupp Arbeiter an der Ersten Brücke vor dem Aufstieg, die den Wanderweg freigeschnitten haben, sahen wir den ganzen Tag hier nur ein Paar und eine deutsche Urlauber-Familie die ebenfalls diesen Weg erwanderten. Für uns die schönste und einsamste Wanderung auf der Insel.
