Tallinn, Estonia City Tour 2018 (Dapple Destinations TV)
Description:
Tallinn, Estonia City Tour 2018. In this video, Dana and I take you through Estonia’s capital city of Tallinn.
In the morning, our group gets off the Norwegian Breakaway and walks to the old town section of Tallinn, where the city has been preserved to be much like it was 600 years in the past.
We stroll through the cobblestone streets wandering in and out of the many souvenir shops, and we pass various street musicians playing beautiful melodies to accompany our experience.
We make our way up to the upper portion of the old city where the lords and ladies lived. We take in the magnificent overlook, which lets you see a nearly 180° out over the old and modern cities.
After ordering a quick beer, I begin a quest to find Kiek in de Kök, a large, round tower built between 1475 and 1483. The famous structure gets its name from being able to look into people’s kitchens in the lower city from its high windows.
After returning and finishing my beer, we head back into the lower town to have lunch at Olde Hansa – a period restaurant celebrating the type of feasts that rich merchants might have experienced 600 years ago. Thoroughly enjoyable.
After a two-hour feast, we head back out into the sunlight to do a bit more exploring, including the giant wall that surrounds the city, as we make our way back to our ship and head off to our next destination.
Walking around Tallinn makes one feel like they’re on the set of some gigantic movie about the renaissance period - except that this is no set. This was a very memorable day for us and one that I recommend to everyone.

So I am loving Tallinn, Estonia. I think this is actually my fifth time in Europe but this maybe my favorite city ever. It's just very medieval, very charming, really cute and the food. The feast that we had just now was amazing. That just put the city up to the very top.
So it is now nine o'clock. It is still daylight out but it is the end of our day. It's time to go catch our ferry back to Helsinki, so we are saying goodbye to Tallinn and I am very sad to be leaving. I thought it was such a great city to visit.
This is part of our Travel in Estonia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Estonian culture, Estonian arts, Estonian foods, Estonian religion and Estonian people.

Toolse castle and Rakvere castle, Estonia
Toolse castle ruins and Rakvere castle (fortress), Vihula, Estonia 2001
Toolse castle (German: Tolsburg) was a crusader castle belonging to the Teutonic Order. It was completed in 1471. At one point, it was the northernmost outpost of the Holy Roman Empire. In fact, Estonia was never part of that state.
Rakvere Castle offers many exciting activities for both children and grown-ups! You can try your hand at shooting a bow or a crossbow, sword fight and pike battle, forging, pottery, minting your own castle coins, and many other things. There's an exposition of the castle's history, historical weapons, and a torture chamber.
