Savanadurga Complete Tour
Savana durga is about 60 kms from Bangalore and 12 Kms from Magadi. This is the largest single rock mountain in this region and popular for rock climbing. There is a forest garden just one Km before Savana durga named as Kempegouda forest garden. This is a very good picnic spot. Mom was with us and we had carried our lunch box. We took lunch here in the forest garden. There is a statue of kempegouda and a huge lake inside. Earlier there was a deer park but during our visit we did not find any such animals.
There are a few important temples near Savana durga. It is Veerabhadreshwar (Shiva) temple which comes about 1 kms before Savana durga. Besides there are two temples, Laxmi Narasimha Temple and Mahalaxmi Temple, located side by side at the foot of the Savana durga hill. My mom was with us and she enjoyed the temples a lot.
Savana durga is the largest single rock mountain in this region and popular for rock climbing. After visiting the forest garden and Laxmi Narasimha temples we took an attempt to climb the hill. My mom preferred to sit inside the car. Savan durga literally means “the fort of death”. During the rule of Hyder Ali, it was used as a prison to punish the enemies. The hill was very steep and difficult to climb. After trying for a long time we could go only half of the way. Beyond that it was looking very risky. One mistake in the step could make the end of life. While climbing up we were enjoying the beautiful views of the surrounding. It was a great experience.
