Places to see in ( Rapallo - Italy )
Rapallo is one of a string of old-fashioned seaside resorts along the eastern half of the Italian Riviera (called the Riviera di Levante). It is not far from Portofino and with its range of hotels, Rapallo makes a good base for exploring the coast. Bigger and busier than its neighbours, and a little less expensive. Rapallo is convenient for travellers as it is also nearer the autostrada and has more 'stopping' train services. Although it isn't the nearest resort, it is still a handy base for the Portofino promontory, with frequent buses to Camogli, Recco, Santa Margherita and Portofino itself. A car can get to any of these places in well under half an hour.
Rapallo's own attractions shouldn't be overlooked either. A short promenade faces across the water to the large harbour and is flanked by a small medieval castle, used now mainly for exhibitions. Behind the front is a group of interesting old streets laid out on a sort of grid pattern. Rapallo was a Roman settlement. West of the town centre, the other side of the river, stands a small bridge which is certainly worth a look, although it now serves no purpose and crosses only a modern road. This is the Ponte di Annibale - plainly very ancient, even if the connection with Hannibal is less certain. At the back of the town, in the other direction, is the bottom station of a cable-car which goes up to the Sanctuary of Montallegro.
Apart from a visit to the church itself, the top gives access to big views over the coast and some walks. There's also a (rather scenic) golf course at Rapallo, a rare thing to find along this hilly coastline. The railway station is only a short walk from the seafront through the old town centre. Car parking is indicated close to the station and at the west end of the promenade.
Like the other resorts in this bit of Liguria, Rapallo makes a good base for hopping from one seaside town to the next. The railway and summer boat services make it easy to tour the resorts in this area, all of which are pleasant place to visit: Camogli, Santa Margherita Ligure and exclusive Portofino. Keen walkers can explore various footpaths in the regional park of the Portofino promontory, and the seashore monastery San Fruttuoso can be visited either by boat or on foot. More distant, but easily reachable by train are the busy city of Genoa and - to the south - the famous Cinque Terre.
WB Yeats, Max Beerbohm and Ezra Pound all garnered inspiration in Rapallo and it's not difficult to see why. With its bright-blue changing cabins, palm-fringed beach and diminutive 16th-century castle perched above the sea, the town has a poetic and nostalgic air. It's at its busiest on Thursdays, when market stalls fill central Piazza Cile.
Alot to see in Rapallo such as :
The Castello sul Mare (Castle-on-the-Sea), erected in 1551 to counter the frequent pirate attacks. It includes a small chapel dedicated to St. Cajetan, built in 1688.
The Castello di Punta Pagana is a seat of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. It was finished on 28 July 1631.
The historical Tower of the Fieschi and the Torre Civica (1473).
The Porta delle Saline, the only remaining gate from the ancient walls.
Basilica of Sts. Gervasius and Protasius, consecrated in 1118 and restored in the early 17th century. In 1679 a new apse was added, deleting the former Romanesque character of the edifice. It has a leaning bell tower.
The church of St. Francis of Assisi (begun in 1519).
The Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montallegro (Our Lady of Montallegro, 1558–1640).
The ruined Monastery of Valle Christi (13th century), abandoned in 1568 after pirate ravages.

#Portofino is a charming sea village on the Italian Riviera circumscribed by the green of the Natural Regional Park and Marine Reserve. This splendid sea resort with its lux, Mediterranean personality, also boasts an ancient marine culture. The area around Portofino is a protected park.
The little streets leading up from the harbour can be explored in very little time. As well as expensive boutiques, there are cheaper souvenir shops and also general stores where you could put together a picnic if you're planning on a walk. Via Roma leads upwards from the harbour, and is the busiest street, with a range of shops, the Portofino Tourist Information Office and the Post Office.
The pretty Piazzetta by the harbour is lined with cafe and restaurant tables, a lovely place to relax with a drink and watch the boats.
Wandering the waterfront and the lanes, you'll find yachting boutiques, jewellers and art galleries.......
#Rapallo was originally a traditional harbour town, and is now the largest and most important seaside resort on the Mediterranean coast in north-west Italy. It is not far from Portofino and with its range of hotels, Rapallo makes a good base for exploring the coast. Bigger and busier than its neighbours, and a little less expensive. Rapallo is convenient for travellers as it is also nearer the autostrada and has more 'stopping' train services......
#Santa Margherita Ligure is that wonderfully old-fashioned kind of Riviera resort where palm fronds wave along the esplanade and is also well placed to explore local highlights such as Portofino. The seafront is the main attraction at Santa Margherita Ligure, with its beach, lively harbour and promenade, and is very picturesque with palm trees, grand buildings and brightly coloured houses immediately behind the seafront. There are two quite extensive areas of beach in the centre of the town, hence its popularity as a base for visitors exploring the region.....

San Remo, Italy - Must See Places
San Remo, Italy - Must See Places - Things to see in San Remo
San Remo is a beautiful town on the west coast of Italy. It's in the province of Liguria. San Remo is the capital town of the Riviera dei Fiori or Riviera of Flowers. The flower market is one of Europe’s largest and is worth catching. It’s famous for a very popular Italian music festival that takes place there every spring. San Remo is full of gardens, great architecture and gorgeous vistas. The clean sea and the sandy beaches of San Remo are perfect for spending pleasant hours with the family.
Things to do and see in San Remo:
The Casino of San Remo has always been one of the main attractions of the town. Built in 1905 this large white building stands out proudly, enticing those who wish to try their luck. The casino was designed in its current Art-Nouveau style by the French architect Eugenio Ferret.
The San Remo Music Festival is worth checking out if you’re in the city of San Remo during the dates the festival occurs. The competition takes place inside of the Ariston Theatre.
La Pigna, the Pinecone, is the oldest part of the city. The district of La Pigna dates back to the 11th century. La Pigna's tiny streets and covered alleyways wind up the hill to the gardens and sanctuary at the top. A labyrinth of secret shortcuts, stacked houses, tunnels and narrow passages, leading to the highest point of the city, the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Costa.
Madonna della Costa Sanctuary, on the hilltop above La Pigna, can be seen from most places in San Remo and is a symbol of the city. A beautiful cobblestone mosaic dating from 1651 leads the way to the sanctuary. The dome atop the sanctuary was erected between 1770 and 1775.
One of the city's landmarks, a witness to the presence of a Russian community in Sanremo is the Russian Orthodox Church. A church wanted by Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna after her visit in Sanremo and built 30 years after her death in 1913. There are busts representing the king of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III and his wife, Elena of Montenegro, daughter of Nicholas I in front of the church.
The Gardens of Queen Elena are on top of the hill above La Pigna. Created in 1890 are filled with informal clusters of thick trees and idyllic walkways. From there you will love the breathtaking view on the roofs of the old town and the Gulf of Sanremo.
Near the old port of San Remo is the Fort of Santa Tecla. Fort of Santa Tecla in San Remo was between 1864 and 1997 in use as a prison. After being used as a prison for many years and now the fort is being completely renovated and will be used for tourism and cultural purposes.
On the northern corner of Piazza Eroi Sanremesi there are public markets. This covered market is the pulse of San Remo. It offers fruits and vegetables, cheeses, bread, home made pastas, fish and wines. Outside you get (on Thuesday and Saturday) a range of clothing and leather for good prices. With many things to do and see in San Remo, it is a very popular tourist city in Italy. Whether you’re looking for arts, music or history, the city has something for everyone. With its harbor full of restaurants and cafes, San Remo is sure to be a place worth visiting if you’re looking for a great place to spend a day or two.
