Live Where You Love: Commuting From Fredericksburg To DC
Most of the Fredericksburg area's residents work outside the Fredericksburg area. Located just an hour north of Richmond and an hour south of Washington DC, Fredericksburg is a central point for many job seekers to call home. Boasting DC loan program lending amount limits, less expensive housing options, and a slower pace of life, Fredericksburg has become the last bedroom community of Washington DC. With several commuting options, many residents see the 1 -2 hour commute times during the week well worth it for the quality of life on the weekends.

Tornado Storm Damage in Tappahannock Essex County Virginia: Nature's Fury
Around 6:45-7:00pm on Feb. 24, 2016, a severe storm hit the town of Tappahannock and Essex County, located on the Middle Peninsula in the eastern Tidewater area of Virginia. The fast moving storm was heading from southwest to northeast at about 55mph, and brought high winds, hail, and heavy rain to the area. The storm also contained a suspected tornado, and radar indicated a strong rotation moved over an area locally known as Desha, just on the outskirts of Tappahannock. The possible tornado moved over a ridge and went up Mount Landing Creek and crossed the Rappahannock River.
30+ structures were damaged and 15 buildings were completely destroyed on Desha Road and Mount Landing Road. State Police had those roads closed to all but emergency traffic. Upon hearing that the tornado went up Mount Landing Creek, I went out to check on my favorite local spot, the Hutchinson Unit of the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge took a direct hit from the rotational storm and sustained heavy damage. The entrance to the refuge was blocked by downed power lines. This slideshow shows some of the damage at the refuge as well as a private neighborhood that lies between the refuge and the Rappahannock River.
These photos do not show the hardest hit areas. They also do not show the magnitude of the destruction of the Wildlife Refuge.
