Thomas Jefferson Addresses New U.S. Citizens at Poplar Forest, Virginia
Thomas Jefferson Speaks at Citizenship Oath Ceremony at Poplar Forest in Lynchburg, Virginia
On April 13, 2018, the Daughters of the American Revolution, United States Customs and Immigration Service, and the United States District Court of Western Virginia held the Citizenship Oath Ceremony for 30 new U.S. citizens at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest retreat home near Lynchburg, Virginia. The guest speaker for the event was none other than Thomas Jefferson, 3rd U.S. President, himself. Mr. Bill Barker has been interpreting Thomas Jefferson at the Williamsburg Colonial Foundation for over 20 years, and was at the Poplar Forest Oath Ceremony to offer words of advice to both the newly naturalized and the naturally born U.S. citizens in attendance. The occasion also coincided with the 275th birthday of President Jefferson. Thanks for watching!

Sisters on the Fly
In Sisters on the Fly: Caravans, Campfires, and Tales from the Road, Irene Rawlings celebrates the camaraderie and travels of this remarkable group of women who live by the motto we have more fun than anyone!
Since 1999, the Sisters have been designing and traveling in uniquely decorated homes on the range (or mountain, valley, desert, or beach) that transport them from adventure to adventure. Sisters on the Fly features tales from the open road, cowgirl crafts, chic trailer decor, recipes passed down from grandma, and plenty of restoration tips to help transform vintage trailers from trashed to treasured. It provides all the practical and inspiring information needed to design a properly appointed home on wheels, or, if one cant take to the highway, to vicariously appreciate the creative journeying of this energetic group.
Perhaps most appealing is the fact that the Sisters inspire each other and other women to step outside their busy roles of mother, daughter, grandmother, businesswoman, teacher, or engineer, and devote a little time to the true cowgirl within. The SOTF cowgirl flies by the seat of her pants (and on some adventures flies without the seat of her pants!), cooks dishes that would make John Wayne himself weak in the knees, travels and explores with fierce independence, and all the while listens, shares, laughs, and loves.
The Sisters on the Fly music is by Bob Haworth

Thomas Canyon Campground near Lamoille Nevada in Lamoille Canyon Recreation area is one of the most unknown amazing places to camp in the United States. A forest service campground (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest) managed by concessionaire the campground is located several miles up and inside Lamoille Canyon. The canyon is a glacier carved marvel of the natural world that easily rivals Kings Canyon in natural wonder and serenity (we would argue that the location is much prettier than Kings Canyon).
30 miles from Elko and Interstate 80 Thomas Canyon Campground offers 40 primitive campsites situated on 3 loops just off the scenic byway that enters and exits the canyon. A small river flows through the center of the campground and during spring and early summer drowns out unwanted noise with a steady sound of flowing water.
Visitors enjoy fishing Lamoille Creek and exploring many local hiking trails. Only crowded on major holidays Lamoille Canyon is a unique location that should be added to everyone’s must camp list. Located within the Ruby Mountains, a desert island brimming with wildlife, sparkling lakes and streams, wildflower-filled meadows and jagged peaks.
Thomas Canyon Campground has paved roads and camping parking pads. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Pit toilets are located on the loops and water spigots are available also. Camphosts are on site for fee collection, sale of firewood and to manage the campground. Sites range from huge to small and can accommodate anything from tents to larger RVs (although larger RVs will be best served on Loop A only as both B and C have tight turns and narrow lanes).
Advanced reservations are available. Due to the fact that this area is forest service land versus a National Park guests have a lot more freedom to enjoy the surrounding area by foot, bike, atv or snowmobile. The rugged region is relatively close to the town of Elko but all guests should be self sufficient as help is not readily available.
