Mittel Rhein Boat Tour (Germany) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about the Mittel Rhein Boat Tour in Germany.
Our journey begins in Koblenz. In around 1000 A.D. a castle was built on a knoll on the east bank of the Rhine and Castle Ehrenbreitstein gradually developed. Europe’s second largest fortress was given its appearance as we see it today, between 1817 and 1828. From the Middle Ages to the late eighteenth century, Koblenz was the residence of the powerful archbishops of Trier and in 1794 it was taken over by France and in 1815, by Prussia. Following the Rhine, our journey leads to Boppard where town houses, stately homes and churches form the romantic old town. After the invasion of the Alemanni, a city wall was built in order to protect what was a toll castle and today the town has developed into an attractive tourist destination surrounded by woods and vineyards. We pass by a high rock on a sharp bend where the Rhine is barely a hundred and thirteen metres wide. Legend tells of a beautiful mermaid, Loreley , who enchanted and distracted sailors with her singing in order that their boats would be destroyed on the rocks. Soon, the river becomes more tranquil. Slowly the craggy slopes change to vineyards and the river valley widens. Bacharach nestles in the confluence of the Steeger Valley, into the extensive Rhine Valley, protected by a sturdy wall. Above the town is the Stahleck Fortress that was first recorded in 1095 and became the residence of the Count Of Palatine On The Rhine, in 1142. The conclusion of our journey, Rüdesheim is a picturesque town that boasts more visitors than residents, its sunny location making it ideal for viticulture. A mediaeval church, wooden buildings and stately homes, and the famous Drosselgasse, characterise the city. The Middle Rhine Valley reflects the history of Europe. With cultural monuments and cultivated countryside, crowded settlements along narrow banks and various noble castles situated on rocky ledges, it is a reflection of the romantic history of times gone by.

Getting Around Mannheim, Germany
Hello Hoppers! Mannheim is known as the Quadratestadt, or City of Squares, for its grid-like design. The city center has no street names and each block is assigned only letters and numbers so if you don't know how the grid works it can get quite confusing. I explain how to get around in Mannheim and how to locate 5 landmarks that are a good start if you are unfamiliar with the city and let's say you want to meet a friend.

Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany - The City of Squares
Mannheim is a city in the southwestern part of Germany, the third-largest in the German state of Baden-Württemberg after Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. Mannheim is among the twenty largest cities in Germany. The city is at the centre of the larger densely populated Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region.
Mannheim is located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar in the northwestern corner of Baden-Württemberg. The Rhine separates Mannheim from the city of Ludwigshafen, just to the west of it in Rhineland-Palatinate, and the border of Baden-Württemberg with Hesse is just to the north. Mannheim is downstream along the Neckar from the city of Heidelberg.
Mannheim is unusual among German cities in that its streets and avenues are laid out in a grid pattern, leading to its nickname die Quadratestadt (The City of Squares). The eighteenth century Mannheim Palace, former home of the Prince-elector of the Palatinate, now houses the University of Mannheim.
According to the Forbes magazine, Mannheim is known for its exceptional inventive power and was ranked 11th among the Top 15 of the most inventive cities worldwide. The New Economy Magazine elected Mannheim under the 20 cities that best represent the world of tomorrow emphasizing Mannheim's positive economic and innovative environment. Since 2014, Mannheim has been a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and holds the title of UNESCO City of Music. Mannheim is a Smart City; the city's electrical grid is installed with a Power-line communication network.
The city's tourism slogan is Leben. Im Quadrat. (Life. Squared.). The civic symbol of Mannheim is der Wasserturm, a Romanesque water tower completed in 1886 that rises to 60 metres above the highest point of the art nouveau area Friedrichsplatz. Mannheim is the starting and finishing point of the Bertha Benz Memorial Route.

Arriving early is the best option to enjoy the falls and surrounding countryside in relative peace.
At Rheinfall, the Rhine River falls 23 m over the full 150-m width of the river. Other Swiss waterfalls are higher and more spectacularly beautiful but the Rhine Falls remains Europe’s largest and most powerful waterfalls.
The water flow at the Rhine waterfalls ranges from around 600,000 liter per second in summer to 250,000 liter per second in winter. The power of the water has been utilized for industrial use since at least the eleventh century with hydroelectric power generation in operation since the nineteenth century.

The Rhine Falls are in the community Neuhausen just 3 km downstream from the pleasant historic old town of Schaffhausen. Transportation options to the Rhine Falls are numerous with cars, buses, trains, boats, and bicycles providing easy access from Schaffhausen and many other parts of Switzerland.

I hope to share some of my videos of the most scenic locations from the trip in the coming days. I wish that you would enjoy your stay at Rhine Falls and thank you very much for your kind attendance..Wishing you always peace & happiness..!!
Rhine Falls – Europe's Biggest Waterfall
================================
Europe's biggest waterfall is in Switzerland. Rhine Falls near the village of Schaffhausen fascinates visitors with its great water volume.
The Rhine Falls provides a magnificent spectacle. Across a width of 150 meters (492 feet) and a height of 23 meters (75.5 feet), 600 m³ (21,189 cubic feet) of water plunge over the falls in the summer.
Due to tectonic shifts in the Ice Age, the Rhine River was forced into a new riverbed over 15,000 years ago. The Rhine Falls came into being at the transition point where hard chalk turned into soft gravel. Over a breadth of 150 meters, several hundred cubic meters of water rush into the depths at the rate of 23 meters per second.
In the middle of it all stands a mighty rock that has withstood the elements for a thousand years. The rock can be reached on a circular tour of the Rhine Falls, during which one can observe the natural spectacle from up close. Virtually in the middle of the waterfall, visitors stand on platforms that jut out and partially hover over the Rhine. The castles of Wörth and Laufen can be reached by river boat, and very daring visitors can rent canoes.
An adventure path with elevator goes from Laufen Castle to the outlook platforms and enables an unobstructed view of this spectacle of nature. A boat ride to the Rhine Falls basin, the rocks in the middle of the Rhine and downstream to the national border or farther to the Rheinau power plant is also worthwhile.
The Adventure Park at Rhine Falls is on the north bank – one of Europe's most spectacular rope parks. All those lusting for adventure can glide from tree to tree on 11 different courses with a breathtaking view of Rhine Falls.
The falls can not be climbed by fish, except by eels that are able to worm their way up over the rocks..
The nearby city of Schaffhausen is commonly associated with the falls too. Even though the Rhine Fall is a form of mass tourism, the natural beauty is overwhelming and for sure worth your time.
