Discover Germany | Our ... Rheinsberg
Rheinsberg lies amidst woods, meadows and lakes north of Berlin, and boasts a romantic palace built by Prussia's Frederick the Great. We joined Ellen Cerf and Steven Bennewitz as they explored the quaint small town.Ellen Cerf,a university student from Edina,Minnesota,USA,is spending a semester studying in Berlin. When her high school friend Steven Bennewitz came to visit, they headed to nearby Rheinsberg to get some country air.
Rheinsberg's Charms
Rheinsberg would probably still be an unremarkable little village if Crown Prince Frederick hadn't chosen it as the site for his summer palace in 1740. There he played music and discussed philosophy and received his friends and guests. Later he said he spent the best years of his life in Rheinsberg.
Schwerin Castle Germany
On the day we arrived in Schwerin, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of filming the place was nearly scuppered by incredible volumes of rain. The exterior shots were taken in what turned out to be a brief and extremely lucky interlude in the weather, enabling me to stand opposite the castle for a few minutes before the heavens quite literally opened again. I have reliable opinion that this summer has been Germany's worst ever, and I believe it.
Home of the Dukes of Mecklenburg, Schwerin Castle rests on a site first used for a castle in the 9th century. It was conquered by Henry the Lion and his noblemen in the 12th century who built up a new fort from the ruins, and founded the city of Schwerin, now the capital of Mecklenburg, and the smallest capital in Germany with just under 100,000 inhabitants.
The descendents of Niklot who was deposed by Henry the Lion, bought back the site in the 14th century when they were made the Dukes of Mecklenburg. The castle was further developed in following centuries mostly by Duke Johann Albrecht I. (1525--1576). In the 17th century the thirty years war put paid to attempts to convert the castle into a Dutch Renaissance palace, but in the 19th century the whole place was rebuilt into the Gothic masterpiece it is today. It was designed by the architect George Demmler, who gained inspiration from the Renaissance castles of the Loire Valley, Chambord in particular. It was never completely finished, and after the revolution that occurred after the German capitulation in 1918, the Dukes left and the castle became a museum. During the communist years the castle was used as a teacher-training school.
Schwerin Castle has had 100 million Euros spent on it in recent years to bring it up to what it is today. Cruise passengers arriving at Rostock come here on day excursions.

(10 highlights on the German Vulcano Road)
May 2017
The German Vulcano Road is a 280 km long road through the Eifel. The German Vulcano Road counts 39 places of interest. It was too much to visit all of these highlights in 1 weekend only. We made a choice out of these highlights and added 2 hikes to our trip. The hikes are part of the Draumpfade (Dream trails). The 2 trails we have hiked were very nice.

und keinen Schirm bei . Gott sei Dank platterte es nicht wie irre.
Aufgenommen mit der Panasonic GH4 mit dem 12-32mm Objektiv .

Take a tour of Glienicke Bridge in Berlin, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats.
The unmistakable Glienicke Bridge connects the capital city of Berlin to Potsdam via the Havel River.
It was an active bridge during the Cold War.
Troops from the US and Soviet armies faced off several times on this bridge.
The bridge was famously used to swap spies from both sides of the Cold War back and forth, giving it the nickname The Bridge of Spies.
It wasn't until the year 1989 that the bridge finally reopened for public use again.
You won't want to miss visiting this famous bridge that has been the host of so much history.

Take a tour of Maulbronn Monastery in Maulbronn, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The German city of Maulbronn is especially popular for the beautiful Maulbronn Monastery that graces its land.
It was founded in the mid-12th century with the patronage of the first Cistercian pope.
The building has elements of both Gothic and Romanesque styles of architecture.
The entire complex has been admired for being extremely well preserved and among the most impressive abbeys in all of Europe.
One of the other key features of this magnificent monastery is its stunning Gothic cloisters.
Following the Reformation, Maulbronn Monastery was seized and now serves as a protestant seminary.
